Olive, why didn’t you check to see if the letter was in fact addressed to you. I check the address on every letter I get when our regular carrier isn’t working. One sub carrier was misdelivering the mail for everyone on our street as the next street is only 1 number different, and all the houses on both streets have the same numbers. Took a visit to the local post office and a talk with the Rural carrier union rep to fix the problem. A phone call to the supervisor accomplished nothing, neither did talking to the local post master. Funny how when our mail was hand sorted we never had a problem, but since the post office automated letter sorting, we keep having the same problems over and over.
I get a card from someone I don’t know and addressed to me! Turns out it was my prankster brother!! I tried the same with him, but I’m not as sneaky as him and signed it with the same marker as his card from me, so I was busted, heck!!!
I was the original owner in my last house and for about 10 years I started getting a holiday card complete with a very long, very detailed printed letter that obviously everyone the people who received. I read the letters, threw out the card, and laughed. I have no idea who the person was who supposedly lived at my house or who sent the cards. I also have a former friend from decades ago who sends “organ recital” letters every yet, pre-printed also. We haven’t seen each other in decades. We worked together for a few years. I would send a card after a while and add a person to my signature, then eventually stopped sending a card since there was never anything to do with us. They moved to another state, and the cards kept coming. More surgeries, and procedures and obviously they were related to being obese and not taking care of themselves. I haven’t sent a card or anything at all for at least 5 years. I got a card and letter this year. I could well be dead, and they would never know. Years ago, I called and tried to set up a lunch or something, but she wasn’t interested. I don’t get the holiday letter inserts. This year it was more about visitors they have had and trips they took, and I know none of the people they mentioned. Bizarre. Maybe it’s some sort of fetish, similar to getting likes on social media.
They have to go by address. Deliver as addressed first, then, if they put it back out, the carrier can deliver it where they think it should go. There are reasons it may have a different address. First hand experience here.
I get some other peoples mail from time to time and drop it in their mailbox. The last time was kind of sad because it was my next neighbor who had passed away. :(

Why wouldn’t Opal notice that it wasn’t addressed to them?

I signed up for the USPS “informed delivery”. It hasn’t worked out as well as I had hoped.

They noticed who it was from but not that it wasn’t addressed to them?
