Really tall buildings may require switching elevators to get all the way to the top. The weight of the cable becomes too much for a single ground-to-roof elevator. Of course, you would not see all the elevators on the ground floor. That would be too much of a “stretch”. (There, I got in the joke.)

I remember seeing that in tall office buildings. An elevator would skip the first 20 or so floors.
