An old man is on his deathbed. His three adult sons (for you ethnic joke fans, their names are Pablo, Pierre, and Mamout) are gathered around him, and after his eyes have been closed for awhile, one speaks up. “I don’t think we need to buy Dad a big, fancy funeral,” he says. “A short notice in the newspaper will be enough.”

“We don’t need to buy him an expensive casket, either,” says the second son. “A plain wooden box will do just fine.”

“Box, schmox,” chimes in the third. “I say we just cremate him and put the ashes in a paper bag!”

Just then the man’s eyes flutter open. Weakly, he says, “Boys, I’m about to die. But I have to come clean with you; this has been weighing heavily on my conscience for some time.”

“What is it, Dad? Tell us, please,” the oldest boy says.

“Well, boys, your mother and I never actually got married.”

The sons look at each other in stark amazement. Finally the youngest son stammers, “You mean we’re…we’re…”

“Yup,” the old man says. “Cheap ones, too.”

Why would the person that does the coloring of the cartoon, paint the goldfish green? They should be yellow.

I think that it is almost certain that intelligent lifeforms exist elsewhere in the universe. But I have not yet seen any evidence to convince me that any extraterrestrial lifeforms have visited the Earth.

the goldfish bit: why can’t people of Minnesota just take their fish to any of the state’s thousands of lakes rather than the waterways?

If some people really believe in “intelligent” life forms somewhere out there, how can they believe that Earth is visited by them?

There was a story about a boy who donated $14.78 to have the Golden Gate Bridge painted gold so that it could live up to its name.

Did anyone here ever read A Fish Out Of Water, about a goldfish that grows to the size of a whale after a boy fed it too much?

The GG Bridge is lovely at sunset due to its color, which also makes it much easier to see in fog. There is so much fog so often that residents of SF have named it Karl. Karl the Fog may even be on Twitter.

Why is that goldfish green?

The color is probably moly orange, a lead/molybdate based pigment.

I have seen little evidence that intelligent life remains on Earth so why would aliens bother.

If the aliens are intelligent why would they want to visit the Earth and then yet only when it is a dark night ?

There is intelligent life elsewhere in the universe and I’m sure they visited Earth. They came. They saw. They fled in complete and utter terror.

Intelligent life forms do NOT live on earth. Washington is proof of that.

There were more photographs of UFOs taken before cell phones had cameras in them. Now that practically everybody’s walking around with a camera you very rarely see photographs of a UFO.

The new font for the Ripley comic is harder to read than the classic one. As their demographic ages, why would they do that?

The orange color probably also is used to make any actual rust less visible in between scheduled painting. Since this is a problem for most bridges, it begs the question why this paint is only used for that bridge and not, for example, the Bay Bridge, or most bridges. The answer might be that many colors are equally effective in preventing rust, but they just like the color, and so do most people.

If there were life forms with the intelligence and technology to reach Earth, why would their actions be so different from our own. Would we not investigate and examine other alien life forms?

I haven’t seen much evidence of intelligent life among our politicians.

But those goldfish taste like chicken, so it’s nothing to carp about.

Having worked more than 30 years as a bridge engineer, Orange is a terrible color to use on steel bridges. The orange color hides the rust from inspectors.

Can some of those fish be captured & put on display in the RBION Aquariums?

Let’s see, we have cameras and satellites EVERYwhere now, catching criminals, cheating spouses, thieves, murderers, shoplifters, and wildlife with no humans around for miles. YET, so far, not ONE credible pic of Bigfoot, a UFO, or the Loch Ness Monster. Go figure.

The colorist for today’s panel must be color blind. The goldfish is showing as green.

The sentience of an alien life capable of travel here, likely would be so radically different as to be unrecognizable by most.

Hollywood [et al.] needs to use humanoid actors in strange costumes for most roles mostly for cost reasons.

Green goldfish? C’mon. Believe it or don’t.

I’m almost certain that life exists elsewhere in the universe, and I think there’s a fairly decent chance that at least primitive life exists elsewhere in our own solar system, but has intelligent life visited our world already? It’s a possibility, but only if they’re abiding by some kind of Star Trek style non-interference policy, so we’re being studied by space anthropologists and every now and then there is a malfunction in the camouflage technology that gives us a brief glimpse. We’ll only know for sure if we launch our own interstellar mission and the Vulcans decide to reveal themselves to us at that time.

I’m hoping one of our space probes will detect bacteria or viruses somewhere in our solar system. It would be a game changer. Europa is a good candidate.

Yes, of course the paint helps protect the bridge from corrosion. The question that isn’t answered is what the color of the paint has to do with it. If anything a-tall, a-tall. This is right up there with “Why do firemen wear red suspenders?”

Perhaps-interesting but related questions: does the paint have lead in it? Did it in the 1930s? How effective is the paint in its job of protection, compared to the paint originally used? Is today’s paint latex-based or otherwise water-thinned? How has the paint technology evolved?

After seeing a craft and not reporting it due to people getting locked up in an asylum or held captive in a government facility to get your brain picked, I will still say yup there are other beings.

By what standard do we measure “intelligent life”? After all there are wild animals on this planet that display various degrees of intelligence; such as dolphins, orcas, weaver birds, chimps, etc. Star Trek and other sci-fi movies have warped our collective brains into believing that any extra terrestrial life forms are far superior to ours. There is equal probability that there could exist life forms similar to our prehistoric epochs.

Mankind’s dominance came about as a result of his warlike, and most importantly, cooperative, traits. This trait is what drove our evolution.

I don’t see why any alien intelligence should be any different. You want peaceful life? Buy a fern.

I’ll believe in aliens, when I see one. Until then…uh, no.
