BigChief, you have to remember that a lot of those dragsters have engines displacing around 1,000 cubic inches compared to around maybe 250 CI for a modern six cylinder. Takes a whole heap of alcohol to keep this huge engines running.
Tex…1000 cubic inches? Nope, more like 500. But alcohol has roughly half the energy of gasoline, so it takes twice as much. Thats why you get much worse mileage with E85.
Nitromethane isn’t exactly “alcohol”, or tequila, and weaving on the track at close to 300 mph is ALMOST as dangerous as a teenager driving while texting. At least the dragster has a parachute?

Same way you do on a human: sample the exhaust.

I’ve seen drag race cars that ran on alcohol. You had to pour it in by the barrel full!

And the alcohol, made from corn, seems to take more petroleum to make than it replaces, not to mention the food prices it ruins.
My old Dad said they used to get back to San Diego from Tijuana sometimes by putting the rest of the tequila in the tank…
