There is the small issue of transportation. Will Annie take them on the bus? How much is a cat’s fare, anyway?

No, cats don’t like water, but what an amazingly HUGE litter box the beach would make!

    Today is:

    National Waffle Day

National Peach Pie Day. MY peach tree has a lot of peaches on it, but they’re still not quite ripe. No peach pie for me yet.

    National Maryland Day

So, when I got to work yesterday morning after my wonderful 13-day vacation, I expected to see some sickly looking plants. I was shocked how many plants had died when I was off for just 6 days in July. I had to throw away literally hundreds of dead plants back then and I was expecting something nearly as bad this time, too. But when I got there, I saw only a few plants that looked really bad. Yes, the chrysanthemums (we just call them “mums”) were very dry and many were wilting, but from all appearances, someone actually did water the plants while I was on vacation, but maybe nobody did it on Saturday and that’s why they were wilting so badly Sunday morning. I watered them right away. It took quite a while to get them properly watered. Then just before going home for the day, I saw a few that were still wilting a little, so I watered all the mums again before going home. I lifted the pots to make sure they were heavy (that shows they’re not dry). The rest of the plants were wet enough. I have to work today, but a later shift – starting at 1:00 in the afternoon. I’m sure they’ll need watering again by then. I’m just glad that none of the plants were in a throw away condition and only a few were in a condition that requires us to mark them down in price.

From yesterday’s comments, marilynnbyerly said,“I am the annoying person who complains to the staff when I see drying out plants. It’s stupid, wasteful, and mean to slow kill potted and nursery stock.”

I actually appreciate such “annoying” customers because when I’m not there the plants often get neglected and I want the managers to jump on whoever is working to get it done. I am so passionate about taking proper care of the plants that another associate once commented to be, “You must have been a plant in a former life.”

I can almost hear the plants cry out in anguish when they get so dry that they’re wilting. And I can’t stand it when garden center associates say that they didn’t water because “It’s supposed to rain.” I tell them I don’t go by “supposed to’s”. I’ve even watered in the rain sometimes, if it’s just a light drizzle which I know won’t amount to anything. People might thin it’s weird, but as far as me and “my” garden center, the only thing that gets priority over the plants is the customers. Not stocking or straightening or anything else. I’ll stop watering to help a customer, then I go back to watering again. It’s gotten me in trouble a few times – managers scolding me that it’s time to “zone” now (our word for straightening up stuff on shelves & making things look nice), but I don’t let that bother me. I’ll do a quick zone, then sneak back out and water some more.

I did take three cats to the beach one day. The Siamese went straight back up to the top of cliff and spent the next hour peering down at us and complaining loudly about how bright it was, how noisy, how windy and how stupid we must be to take cats to the beach.

A family member is a small animal vet. Each year, she and a group of her vet friends are given a beach house for a week so they can neuter all the strays brought to them by a cat rescue. Idiots believe that cats can catch fish and survive at a beach so they dump them there.

I remember when I took my ‘two’ kids to the beach ~ wet bathing suits, sand everywhere! I can’t imagine taking 10 cats.

This Side Up and our 3 girls, Lily, Jellybean and Bluebell, make an attractive, colorful foursome. Imagining them lounging on fluffy beach blankets below striped red and white umbrellas with a lovely bright blue sky dotted with puffy white clouds close to calm pale blue waters …………… zzzzzzzzzzzzzz

I like how the cats want to pour the suntan lotion into the sand. That sounds like something cats would do. XD On another note, saw three dragonflies, a squirrel, and a rabbit while out walking today.
