/// Now A Critical Moment is here.

He has hooked a fish, then reeled it near.

His girl holds out the net,

    but she loathes getting wet.

They’re not likely to land it, I fear.

You know you’re rich when your fishing gear costs more than the average person earns in a year

    She wanted a sportsman, strong,

But he seems to have it all wrong,

    He said he’s a pro,

So she gave him a go,

But he really just strung her along.

Kurt and Karen really didn’t care about fishing. It was wearing those high, glossy rubber boots that turned them on.

The fish, it seemed, all stayed away/

But it wasn’t a loss, he would say/

Though he caught not one fish/

    He still got his wish/

For she was the catch of the day.

Next time bring fishing line; just trying to hit them with the rod is too tricky.

Let’s see. If we add up the fly rod, the wading boots, the outfits …

It comes out to about $2,000 a fish.

    A critical moment

    https://www.Loc.gov/resource/ppmsca.43656/

has info about this 1906 chromolithograph of a circa 1906 drawing with no attribution. Due to its Library of Congress watermark at the top left corner, I can’t post it to WC (watermarked images aren’t allowed).

Again, a slightly larger strip image is shown by (Ctrl- or right-) clicking the image in Mr. Melcher’s MASTERPIECE #3216 (November 6, 2023) blog entry, accessible by the Check out the blog! box after the last comment, and using the dropdown menu (even larger, if you trim what’s after .jpg from the URL). It is one of 50 works, so far, that have been used here with initially no or current unknown attribution, the September 25, 2023, strip being the prior.

It was not his first choice, but Ken was resigned to fishing, having no wood of his own for proper beaver hunting.

I can’t quite make out what the stamp in the upper left says, but it makes me wonder what publication this was in.

On another note, it is quite a terrible painting/illustration, as these things go. I can’t begin to point out the number of things wrong with it. It was probably just a quick illustration for a magazine or something.
