/// Ella’s pony hauls A Load of Hay

plus her son on top. (What does he weigh?)

    Ella, young, big and strong,

    slowly trudges along.

She could ride, but the pony said, “Neigh.”

The artist saw fit to portray/

Serafina back in her “hay day”../

She was blithe, she was gay – /

But it pains one to say/

That she was no longer looks that way..///

Her horse, on the other hand/

    Finds itself in constant demand/

    For I’ve recently read/

    That he plays Mister Ed/

In a place they call TV Land.

Is it even possible to get onto a hay stack like that?

“Great. Now I have to go to the baker.”

Did she feel any twinge of remorse/

At her unwonted use of force?/

    In spite of the load/

She’d been free with the goad:/

Thus a hernia ruined her horse.

    A Load of Hay

    Paste (including the quote marks)

"Category:1870 oil on canvas paintings in the United Kingdom" Wikimedia

(syntax supported by the Google, Bing, Yahoo, DuckDuckGo, Ecosia, and Yandex search engines) in the browser address bar (or search for it using one of those search engines) and choose the first Category: found, and once there find the text string Henzell, and click its link for info and links that point to more info about this roughly jumbo envelope size painting.

Again, a larger strip image is also shown by merely clicking the image in Mr. Melcher’s THROWBACK THURSDAY: MASTERPIECE #2303 (10/9/19) (March 13, 2024) blog entry, accessible by the Check out the blog! box after the last comment. I have added a comment and reply there pointing to info about this artist I used to point to here. So far, only work by him used here (2 times total, including this Throwback Thursday repeat), the October 9, 2019, strip being its first use.

    But he never makes clear/

    That THIS Ella isn’t Fitzgerald..

I applaud the effort, but that’s not an actual ‘bail’ (bale) of hay. More like a ‘rick’ as it’s just stacked on the wagon with nothing to hold it together but gravity.

    They gather from miles around/

To enjoy the famed Fitzgerald sound/

    But they exit in haste:

    With a sneer of distaste/

When this mound is all they have found .

Some comments from the previous 10/9/19 posting:

gopher gofer: meg was always well prepared and ready for a roll in the hay…

WoodstockJack: What are those things she has on her feet?

    OMG! Those ARE her feet!

Plods with …™: Gotta bail (sic) the hay first.

J Short: Hoping someone would ask “How about a roll in the hay?”; Meg always kept a healthy supply on hand.

garcoa: Halfway there she bailed out? Or baled out?

Bookworm: “Just find your pants before we get to the barn.”

Huckleberry Hiroshima: “Hey Needle, you still up there? They’ll soon be looking for you.”

MS72: Best name for a dagger/sword. Learned it on GoT.

Linguist: Bridey Bailey bringing a bulky bale of barley bound for Barnabee’s barn.

cheap_day_return: The kid was the crowning touch. No one would guess Meg was taking a hundred pounds of cocaine across the border every day.

Sorry. No Call me Ishmael sighting.
