/// Though Abe had hopes of having his way,

she won’t even give him time of day.

A ring on her right thumb

    holds great meaning for some.

Could Maria be saying she’s gay?

The fat little creep wouldn’t take ‘no’ for an answer – he was making Nancy lose her hair.

“Hey, babe, it’s getting dark, How much further is it to your place? Maybe we should go to my apartment instead.”

“No – keep going, we’re almost there. Once the moon rises, I will be ready to rip and tear…”

Portrait of a ‘happy’ couple. Maria hooked up with the painter shortly after.

OK, Barthy. This wrinkle you just painted on my forehead should better be gone before I count to 10 or your precious Rosa Chinensis Purpurea Harlemensis is history. Now, do we understand each other?

It was funny when the hypnotist got Sandra to think she was a cow, but then she started eating the rhododendrons….

In high school, they called her “the brow”/

She would never be anyone’s “vrouw”/

    But a Prince she aroused:/

    In a mansion she’s housed/

And her classmates are having a cow …

(And baby, look at her now!)

But how did they ever connect?/

    It isn’t what you suspect:/

    Her breasts are “petite “/

(What IS huge is her feet !)/

Might the charm be …her intellect?!!

…And last night we saw it again:/

    A rooster undone by a hen!/

    As a male, I can see/

    That she’s smarter than me:/

Must we always be (mis)led by men ?

That’s one of the worst photographs of a painting I’ve ever seen. You would think that someone would at least run it through a photo editor and brighten it up a little.

“Abraham and Maria had been married for three years when Van der Helst painted this double portrait. Several motifs in the picture allude to love and fidelity, and to the young couple’s happiness in the early days of their marriage. The rose that Maria holds out for us to see is a symbol of love; the verdant landscape in which she and her husband are portrayed alludes to a garden of love.”

The good thing about going in drag in 1654 was you didn’t have to be too concerned about padding your bra.

Abraham del Court and his wife Maria de Kaersgieter

    Paste (including the quote marks)

    "Category:Paintings of sitting couples" Wikimedia

(syntax supported by the Google, Bing, Yahoo, DuckDuckGo, and Brave search engines) in the browser address bar (or search for it using one of those search engines) and choose the first Category: found (again, DuckDuckGo finds its alternate name and needs an extra click) and once there find the text string Helst, and click its link for info and links that point to more info (perhaps best viewed using the Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox browsers, which can automatically translate most webpages if necessary) about this large painting.

Again, a larger strip image is shown by (Ctrl- or right-) clicking the image in Mr. Melcher’s MASTERPIECE #3373 (September 11, 2024) blog entry, accessible by the Check out the blog! box after the last comment, and using the dropdown menu (even larger, if you trim what’s after .png from the URL). I have added a comment there pointing to the blog entry with my comment pointing to info about this artist I used to point to here. So far, 8 works by him have been used here, the September 10, 2024, strip being the prior.

Fashions change. A high forehead, like fair skin, used to be seen in Europe as a feature of the highborn, and came to be part of the look of a beauty. A ratfaced and/or hairy woman had no chance at a second glance.
