I bought my mom & dad their very first color TV back then, a 23 inch RCA in a wood cabinet. I think about four hundred & fifty dollars back then, as I recall. Not many shows were in color then, but we would marvel at some of the commercials that were.
Rudolph 1964, Charlie Brown 1965, The Grinch 1966, good years to be young watching Christmas cartoons on TV when there were only a few major channels and before the years of DVDs, and streaming services.
I remember back in those early color TV days, our next-door neighbor got one and, when they were watching that year’s showing of “The Wizard of Oz”, a gaggle of neighborhood kids (yes, me included), were standing outside looking at it through the picture window…
You and me both, Ted. In the good ole days, B/W was the greatest. Some color sets existed, but they were hardly worth watching. A next door neighbor had one with a blue band across the top, a green band across the middle, and a red band across the bottom.
I remember the first color TV we got, purchased right after Christmas in order to be able to watch the New Year’s Rose Bowl parade in color that year, 1961 or 62 maybe. It was a Zenith or RCA, big beautiful console. I remember my parents being told they couldn’t turn it on right away after it was delivered as it had been in a cold warehouse and the tubes needed to warm up to room temp first.

First broadcast was in 1964. Color TVs were rather new and pricey back then.

can’t beat a classic no matter what color it’s in. ;)

Colour TV came to Canada in 1966. I remember staying up late to watch the first colour test patterns. (In black and white)

I don’t know what people are complaining about, if Mariah Carey says all she wants for Christmas is ME, I’m cashing in.

Sometimes I wish that I wasn’t such a Scrooge so I could enjoy some of the holiday programs.

The way I remember first seeing it also. Color does make it better but the songs, music and message are timeless…..
