For those of you who don’t have the cartoonist’s linguistic leaping ability: the man sees eels which makes him think of moray eels (God knows, there are many, many other kinds of eels). “A Moray” equals “amore” (Italian pronunciation). So, this is a great joke if you think all eels are morays and prefer the Italian pronunciation of “amore”. Hardly worth the trip, right?

NPR’s Morning Edition did a segment on moray eels in 2007. Parts of the closing song went something like this:
When a fish bites your thigh as you’re just swimming by, that’s a moray.
If you scream and you beg and it still bites your leg, that’s a moray.
