The Buckets by Greg Cravens for December 22, 2013
Transcript:
We need to do something about our old nativity scene. Over the years, everyone in the family has accidentally lost or broken some part of it. I mean look at this... Half the barn is Lego now... Joseph has been replaced by Eddie's Obi-Wan Kenobi action figure. I've re-glued and repainted Mary so many times she looks like Bigfoot in drag. The three wise men are Santa, Toby's Frankenstein model, and Dogzilla's gnome squeaky toy. And the barn animals are cardboard standups you got from one of the kids games. Uh-huh. And what's that one, right in the middle? Baby Jesus. Hm. I don't see a problem.

our nativity set—dates back to the late 1800’s and early 1900’s. the "broken " pieces are cherished and are placed first when set is placed out on Advent 1.we wouldn’t have it any other way either.it embraces over 100 yrs of our family celebrating Christmas.

My old friends have a manger set… but their kids used to do the decorating of it … one year it was Lego Star Wars. Another year it was some other toy. It got the kids involved and was fun to look at.Nothing wrong with having a bit of fun, while doing advent. Advent IS “The Celebratory Preparation of our Hearts to Welcome Christ.”

Sounds like my parents’ Nativity set. It’s the first thing I look for when I go to their home for Christmas.

Hey, they got Baby Jesus right. What else do you need?

I’m a Jewish atheist, but I found this strip to be both touching and meaningful. To all who believe in Christ (whoever he was) and truly try to follow the ideals that he and the season represent, I wish you a very Merry Christmas!

Bravo, Larry. Turn that smile upside down, Sarah, that nativity is full of family memories.

Sarah was sighing for a museum-quality Nativity Scene (which given her children I can completely understand!) while Larry argued for the loved/lived-quality. I AM sure she’s convinced by his peroration….. ;)

I’m kind of tall, and I did once pull off a pretty good Frankenstein costume one Halloween . . . Forgive me for being a little dense, but I’m not really sure I understand the meaning of the question . . .
