news of the times bush admin. unraveling over policy obsession the bush administration's monomaniacal obsession with education has nearly caused its own collapse. in his defense, president bush often cites 9/11 as the justification for his singular focus. bush: I was informed of the terrorist attacks while reading to schoolchildren, and i realized, "my god, these kids are our future." 9/11 changed everything. with an additional $204 billion poured into education so far, america's schools are now superbly staffed and well equipped to prepare our children for the challenges ahead! Bush: what's the biffest threat to the american way of life? it's not terrorism -- it's having an uneducate and under-competitive population flounder in the global economy! so fanatical has been the bush team's devotion to education, scandals have erupted. oop: so, you outed this man's wife as a c.i.a. operative simply because he criticized your advocacy of the "whole math" approach? man: I just care so much! further, critics have assailed bush for rushing to action without proper planning. critic: so we'll have the most brilliant innovators and productive workforce in the world. but where's the exit strategy?! whatever the bush plan's flaws are, at least he didn't adopt the proposed policy of his former vice president, now believed to be insane. cheney: we're wasting our money on these brats! we should be using it to invade iraq and kill foreigners!
