Laziness and efficiency indeed! These so-called “smartphones” completely lay out one’s private life for the edification and delectation of Big Brother. The words “I’m not worried, I’m not doing anything wrong!” are some of the sorriest and most foolishly naïve words ever spoken. What you don’t know can & WILL hurt you. We’ve no way whatsoever to know or correct the information & misinformation about us that’s been gathered about us that’s out there, nor do you know what’s actually considered “right” or “wrong.” That’s Big Brother’s prerogative to decide, and Big Brother can change his mind about that, and his opinion of you, at any time without notice. Outside of China & unlike in Orwell’s novel 1984, Big Brother hasn’t to date needed to openly forced himself on us and terrify us into compliance. Rather, Big Brother & Crew have seduced us with convenience. Our latter-day Big Brother’s sinister motives are much the same, however. The intention is still to track us and know everything about us and then use that info to control and exploit us.
As the saying goes among the IT cognoscenti, “Dumb people use smartphones, smart people use dumb phones!”
My dad did this, well, sort of. He was the first out of the 3 of us, the other 2 being mum and me to get a mobile phone. He sat up in bed one sunday morning trying to get the hang of his “latest gadget” as mum called it. The first call he made on his phone was to the house asking my mother if she would make him a cup of tea. I once described my dad as a cheeky chancer and mum said that that was the best description of him she had ever heard,☺.
Funny, but it seems odd for modern technology like smartphones to exist in Andy Capp’s world. Oh well, at least Chalkie’s the one with the smart phone and not Andy.

When I’m upstairs in my bedroom and my Dad needs me for something he sends me a text. It’s better than shouting. He hasn’t got a Smartphone though.

And Rube doesn’t have to walk all the way over to say “Get them yourself!”
