Scientific Consensus is a convention that is held for days and days with not much agreement. Then on the last day… the few who are left make wild conclusions and ask for a vote. Since the few there are Tin Foil Hat Wearers… weird things happen. Such as one person suggests to make Pi easy – just round it to the nearest whole number! And another person suggests to down grade a solar body from Planet… even though it is smaller than our Moon. Why not make the Moon a Planet?

I think it is what ever politicians and big business want science to hold as true.

Religious consensus: An accepted certainty disprovable only on pain of an auto-da-fe.

Here in India we have “WhatsApp University”, an endless source of “information” wholly unverifiable, and irrefutable maybe for the same reason!

Ignorance is just as valid as certitude in this bold new century of ours.

People do not believe in science for two reasons: they don’t like the answer and the answer is subject to change if new evidence refutes the conclusion. Some people cannot handle being wrong and they can’t handle change. The result is that when you can fight the facts, attack the source.

“I would rather have questions that cannot be answered, than answers that cannot be questioned.” – Richard Feynman.

Or the slow progress of science as the gatekeepers of knowledge, one by one, pass on.

Every once in a while I forget just how ridiculous some people can be, and then I read comments on the internet.

Hey, just because I MAY have smoked a dooby in High School doesn’t take away from the fact that I know something about computer science.

The same is and was true of anything in newspapers. Some people were unsure of the obituaries unless they knew the people in them.

Consensus is meaningless in science. A Theory isn’t proven by taking a vote, it’s proven by its adherents to empirical evidence. The media doesn’t understand this and therefore promotes a lot of junk science if it fits the narrative of the day.

Scientific consensus – something facts dare not disprove.

Scientific consensus is the collective judgment, position, and opinion of the community of scientists in a particular field of study. Consensus implies general agreement, though not necessarily unanimity. It also doesn’t mean they’re right. After all, 400 years ago, everybody thought the Earth was the center of the universe.

Scientific Consensus exists outside Science. Inside Science it is only a weapon to silence your opponent. In Science the next experiment can destroy a life’s work.

    An “accepted certainty” is unscientific.
