In the 1976 Montreal Olympics, a soviet pentathlete during the fencing section surprisingly won every bout with impunity. Turned out that he had a button in his sword handle that would display a strike whenever he liked. His name was Boris Onischenko. Our afternoon paper led with the headline ’VERY DIS-ONISCHENKO"
I don’t think you should discount him. His opponent draws a Sword and states “En Garde!” Then the opponent gets hit over the head with a 6 foot 4" by 4". Fencing with a new twist! brings excitement to the Olympics. After all the Olympics are getting a little dull.
Spent several days with my mom as a kid building and painting a picket fence, and digging post holes to create a pen for our dogs.
Within an hour after completion, the beagle tunneled under, the younger german shepherd jumped over and the older german shepherd knocked out a board and walked through
My cat does “fencing” by doing parkour on, along and over the neighborhood fences, which are like highways for cats, raccoons and opossums (which always have the right of way).
Yesterday I had an epiphany! The beginning of the Olympic Fanfare and Theme song – written by THE John Williams of Star Wars and Spielberg movie soundtrack fame in 1984 – begins identically to “Oh Canada” written 100 years earlier :

Yeah, they want to know how much you will pay for hot items.

I used to tell people I was fencing and they mistakenly imagined swords too. Many of those chain link fences are still in good shape.

So far, a lot of comments have bashed the style and form of the presentation and glitz. This definitely is a ‘different’ form of the games.

He put up a good de-fence.

Good fences make good neighbors – especially when you want to buy something cheap.

Either that fence maker is incredibly fast, or the judge is slow as you know what. I would’ve checked him out when he walked is with a hammer.

I wonder why it’s called fencing and not simply “sword fighting” or “sword sparring”?

Blessed are the fencemakers, for they shall not be mocked in our opening ceremonies.

To misquote Robert Frost: “Good fencing makes for careful neighbors.”
