Much like my niece. She was such an energetic baby we knew she’d be a handful when she got mobile, and we were very, very right. While we don’t have her first scootching crawl on film, we DO have my brother’s reaction of “…Wonderful.”
The Baby’s probably been cruising quite a bit off camera, she just needed to work up the confidence to strike out on her own. Now that she knows gravity’s not going to betray her, it’s off to the races!
Daughter 2 went from crawling to running in one day. On day 2 she shed her clothes and diaper, snuck out into the yard, and ran down the sidewalk behind big sister and friends. The neighbor kids dubbed her “the naked wonder.”
Ha ha ha! 30 years ago that was my niece, too! She never crawled and went straight to walk/running…I think she was just practicing for becoming a police officer!
For those who missed it, at the end of yesterday’s comment section the identity of the follically challenged doll was revealed. There’s a real human involved.
Babies have two speeds at that age…0 and full blast ahead. That use to scare the heck out of me watching our kids. I was worried they would injure themselves.
I wanted to share one of my favorite pictures of Maxie with everyone. She was definitely attracted to flames. I had to keep a close eye on her whenever there were candles lit.
I was like this with talking! I apparently went from barely any words (to the point where they were concerned) to full sentences in the span of a couple of weeks!
I had two much older brothers who would get whatever I wanted when I pointed and grunted so I had no incentive to walk or talk until the parents figured that out. There went my personal slaves.
We had a cat years ago we named Bullet. Most unusual as a kitten, at the time the rest of his litter was just starting to learn to crawl and walk, Bullet went straight to running. When he tried crawling he was falling all over himself. The joke was that he started off trying to be a speeding bullet, hence how he got his name. Maybe the baby needs a nickname now.
Our eldest son went from crawling to climbing—six feet up a bookshelf. Talk about a heart-check. He loved to climb, and we started calling him “Sir Edmund” (Hillary).
Has anybody mentioned that it’s National Bacon Day? I celebrated by having bacon and eggs and fried taters (fried in the bacon grease of course) for supper. My stomach should start protesting any time now.
I’m devastated. Our senior boy crossed the rainbow bridge Monday morning. I’m on vacation in Tokyo and woke up in the middle of the night to find messages from our friend who was caring for him and my husband (in MS visiting his family).

I wonder if the Baby was practicing walking when no one was looking.

Not unusual to go from crawling to full steam ahead. As long as she was coddled and carried, why should she walk or run.

At that age, it is “easier” to run than it is to walk slowly. “A body in motion tends to remain in motion…”

Love the sudden change of Puck’s expression from pleased and proud to what appears to be consternation.

Well, they do say you have to walk before you can run. But not usually one step.

I wonder why it took until she was 19 months old? Most kidlets are already there by a year.

19 months seems long to the cats because they started walking (and running, and climbing the drapes) in a lot less time than that.
But then again, the Baby has fewer legs to work with.

Can confirm, boys, human children do go rapidly from walking to running. Not all of them do so, but one of mine sure did!

Yes, the running usually follows shortly after those first few steps. Followed by you trying to keep up with them all the time.

Nineteen months? That’s awfully late to start walking. Mine walked at eleven, twelve and fourteen months.
