Opossums enjoying Ice Cream. Raccoons working on a bit of sleep. But what is the frog doing?!? Is he kicking back and having a Midnight Feast with Pollen Tea?
I see a possum family out for ice cream. One possum kitten seems to be wearing a cowboy hat and I spy a little crown behind Mama’s ear while they enjoy their cones! A young princess possum? Am I seeing things?
I had turned the two front facing opossums into Donald Duck, or perhaps a platypus, because they look like they have bills on their faces. Now I realize they have teeny tiny ice cream cones. !!!! Of course, I should have realized it would be mean for only Mom and Dad to get ice cream.
Baba Mouse and Agnes are heading towards the undiscovered country … a place Georgia has never before taken us! I can’t wait to see what comes next – to find out what her errand is, and who she’s going to find (and who she will be returning).
Georgia Dunn, thank you so much for all that you do, and especially this lovely night-time journey!
Georgia, your art is always great, however, your outdoor renditions are incredible. Each time I look at it, there is more detail that I had not seen before. Please consider making some of this art available for purchase.
I thought Baba Mouse found a baby possum in the barnyard and returned it to its parents, who have so many babies they might not have noticed its absence yet—her bindle looks empty in the last panel. Or at least less strained at the bottom. Maybe a meeting with the raccoons on the way home?
Perfect comic for my birthday, it has everything I love! A nighttime quest under the stars and moon in midsummer and a peek at all who revel in the night! Georgia Dunn, if you ever sell your original strips, this would be my choice!
Today is Fairy Day. Just what sort of fairy is not specified—and “fairy” has become a portmanteau of enormous proportions, although the definition of “portmanteau word” does not exactly apply.
First, we have the Fae, both gentle and un. Then we have the various derivatives and confusing cognates derived therefrom, with abundant cultural appropriations from just about everywhere and everywhen. Next, we have the complicated conundrum of alternate sexual orientation. (Which also includes, apparently, “none of the above,” and is still in a state of flux. Reminds me of a stew made to clean out the pantry—you’re not quite sure what’s in there, but you can be sure it’s in there …)
I have a friend, one of the best human beings I’ve ever known, who recently “came out.” (If that’s the current term. If not, fill in the blank.) When he rattled off the string of terms for his identity, there was a full minute of silence while I attempted to make sense of it. Giving up, I said, “Well, just don’t do it in the street and frighten the horses and children—especially the horses.” He was, of course expecting something of the sort, because he knew it made little difference to me. What did make a small difference is the reason he waited so long: He knew his father would not understand, and waited until he had passed away. Such love and consideration is a credit to any human being, and only one of the many reasons this human being is my deeply respected friend.
Frankly, I have no more than a passing, casual interest at most in anyone’s sexual orientation. It’s none of my business: “That, and a buck and a half, might get you a mediocre cup of coffee. Just don’t frighten the horses …”
So whatever you are, whether real or mythical, may all you meet be the gentle Fae.
Love just about everything about this strip, but what got me the most was the sweet possum family having ice cream cones! Possums are not given the credit they deserve for eating ticks and other insect pests!
Dear Georgia, can you please update the “In the news” portion of the “About the Reporters” section? I can’t keep track of all the new characters from Farther Out and I want to. Thanks.
See the third panel, see how Baba has her toe to her lips to sush Agnes. She knows you can’t trust vile racoons. She knows it was they who started the fight with the possums.
I bet that wooly bear caterpillar is a relative of the one Tommy interviewed back in July 2016!http://www.breakingcatnews.com/comic/an-interview-with-the-july-bug/

Love that big ol’ wooly worm in panel 2, at least that’s what it looks like to me. If it is a wooly worm, he’s forecasting a pretty bad winter.

Wild things, you make my heart sing
You make everything groovy, wild things
Wild things, I think I love you
But I wanna know for sure
Come on and bask in moonlight
I love you
Wild things, you make the night sing
You make everything groovy, wild things
Wild things, I think you move me
But I wanna know for sure
Come on and rule the night
You move me
Wild things, you make the night swing
You make everything groovy, wild things
Wild things, you are my everything

From Joe Jackson: Steppin’ Out
Now
The the crescent moon shines with a bit of light
And revels in the flickers of the stars that shine
On an evening that’s so fine
You won’t believe your eyes!
…….
We
Both walk together and greet all our friends
From tiny frog the queen racoon,
We say hello,
Where we headed? We don’t know
But can’t wait to get there!
We are, steppin’ out
Into the night
Into the light
Me and Baba, steppin’ out
Into the night
Into the light
…….
We
Are traveling and well upon our way
We’ll leave the cares of the day behind
Don’t you wonder what we’ll find
Steppin’ out tonight
…….
Agnes
All dressed in her pink suit all dressed to go
As Baba goes on her way with a great big smile
We’ll be there in just a while
Wonder where we’ll go?
…….
We are, steppin’ out
Into the night
Into the light
Me and Baba, steppin’ out
Into the night
Into the light!
