I have a long-haired cat in the hottest summer in Texas for years. Tell me about it.

(My car AC is fixed now, though! It’s been out for weeks. Rush hour on the slowest highway in Texas in 110+F heat without AC? NOT FUN.)

Also, color me unsurprised that there’s a magazine called “Soap Studs”, that it features Kit Chase on the cover, and Pucky is reading it.

I gave up a long time ago with Loaner Cat. It’s like someone pushes a button and all of her hair comes out at once. The minute she starts to shed, what doesn’t get everywhere turns to horrible mats on her and I can’t brush through them because they’re SO matted, it’s like they’ve been woven together. I just start cutting them off whenever she walks by and eventually, I can brush her again but she ends up looking like some drunken, homeless cat or Bill the Cat, until her hair starts to grow back in.

    Meanwhile, Back on the Nile

    At the Royal Dining Room

Thomios: As some of you know, I’ll be taking a week to visit my Uncle Floof at the Ceiling Can Be a Floor Culinary School.

Elvis-Anum: But what about our meals while you’re gone?

Thomios: Don’t worry. Everything is in Sue Chef’s capable paws, and Packer Chipmunk just passed his culinary apprenticeship with flying colors.

Iggy: I’ll be going fishing with Fresh and Salty Water Cats. Hopefully we’ll have a great catch.

Puckmosis: I’d love some Perfect Perch. Maybe Cat will smile down on you and send some Diem Carp.

Lupinium: I’m going to the Cosmo’s Nursery to plant my Blossom of Blessing. From now on it will be known as the Pink Lupinium.

Puckmosis: I see your fur is almost white again.

Lupinium: That’s right. I’ve been taking my beauty baths at Barbara’s Shop. Soon I’ll be invisible against the white walls again.

Elvis-Anum: You mean you think you’ll be invisible. And what will you be doing Ora Z?

Ora Z: I’m helping Iron Glove and Wally perfect their potato launcher.

My two seem to shed all year ‘round. Neither of them can hold a candle to the rabbit we had for 8 years, though. She’d blow her coat all at once like a dog and it would waft around the house in lighter-than-air clumps.

    Coolin’ on a Sunday afternoon

Really couldn’t find a way too soon

    I can’t imagine anything that’s better

Our world’s got fur clouds since we’re super shedders

There ain’t a place Puck’d like to be instead of

Perusin’ a “Soap Studs” mag or two

Doin’ anything he’d like to do

There’s always lots of ways that we can chill

We can lie anywhere and just be still

Two mice havin’ a freeze pop gives an icy thrill

    Coolin’ on a Sunday afternoon

Really Kit Chase can still make us swoon

    Whoa, oh, oh, oh

We’ll keep on spending sunny days this way

We’re gonna rest and dream our time away

I feel fall coming closer day by day

Fans blowin’ ecstasy, sippin’ ice tea endlessly

    Coolin’ on a Sunday afternoon

Really haven’t moved today since noon

    No, no, no, no

    Coolin’ (uh huh, uh huh)

No cat sheds like Mittens, with her copious amounts of long hair that gets everywhere. Hamilton is our next big shedder, then comes Holly Bear. Belle and Holmes have such fine, soft fur that you don’t see them shed.

However, Iko the dog sheds the most.

Every time I comb my cat, I get enough fur to make an entire second cat.

This time of year, we’re combing two or three times a week, minimum. I usually get partway through before I remember that if I don’t want fur all over my clothes, it’s better to take them off.

Both my girls are domestic medium hair. Gracie takes most of the weather in-stride. Sara is your typical always cold kitty. We have multiple hot spots for winter, but also a few spots for summer. We have a few sunbathing locales but the chewy box is where she goes to escape the A/C. She can curl up down in that large box, but she can still see what’s going on. She also has a spot on the couch where the pillows protect her from any cold air. They don’t shed too badly, but all that fur seems to end up in the hallway between the bedrooms and the main bathroom.

RE: HEAT. During the Heat Dome here in the PNW a few years ago, I was resting in my bedroom which is the warmest area of the house. I realized I was getting way too hot, I also realized I was getting a fuzzy head. A FEW MOMENTS later, I got up slowly to move to a cooler room and I nearly passed out and barely made it to a safer place while holding onto furniture and walls. This Came On Very Suddenly and Unexpectedly. Please beloved Orbsters et al, pay close attention and take care.

Cats shed, especially in the summer. The spring shedding is nothing compared to July-August, especially for Longhairs. Better to get a brush and pamper them for 4-5 minutes a day for a week or two. Or make a comber they can go through on their own. Get a couple of the long bristle bathroom cleaning brushes, the kind made with the wrie wrapping, and that look like a guitar. Remove the handle and shape the bristle part into a simple hoop. then attach that to a piece of half inch plywood. about 18 inches square. sprinkle a bit of catnip on it once, and then stand back.

I brush my cat in the morning

I brush my cat at night

She takes a big spliff of some good catnip

To make her feel all right

She gets catnip treats in time of peace

And more in time of war (like when all the blasted remodeling was happening)

I brush my cat and then I brush my cat

And then I brush her some more

Daddy always told me child, you be hardworkin’ man

Mama told me that’s all right, just do the best you can

Then one day I met a man, said that’s enough of that

Hard work good and hard work fine

But first take care of Cat

And so I brush my cat in the afternoon, and then I brush my cat

I brush my cat while I play video games, knit her fur into a hat (I brush my cat)

Then she rolls on rug while I smoke some nug

    And purrs into the night

I brush my cat and then I brush my cat

Brush her mats out till she bites

Hey! Would you rather brush your cat or would you rather vacuum up the spring blowout?

I knew you were gonna say that!

My voids have short hair and keep themselves well groomed. Rubbing against the corners of pastel walls, however, leaves “greasy kit stuff.” When I had to have the house renovated, we put thin clear plastic guards on every outward-facing corner in public areas to keep the paint clean.
