I wonder if Google’s Gmail could be using AI. It seems to be getting worse at detecting spam messages. Lately, it seems to believe that almost every message that mentions a purchase must be authentic. It’s also been routing more and more real messages to my spam folder, even when those messages are from a sender I deliberately put in my contacts list to try to prevent that from happening. I’ve had a Gmail account since it was in beta, and I can’t remember its spam detection ever being this poor.
Microsoft tried this in 2016 with an AI called Tay, which was trained directly off Twitter. Within 24 hours it was spouting racist, sexist and anti-semitic nonsense and had to be turned off. So, that was a dumb idea. But, given the level of desperation the AI bros are showing theze days, I wouldn’t be surprized if someone tried it again.
Turns out, the 80s band Devo was right: we aren’t evolving, we are devolving, and technology has accelerated the process. I expect we’ll attain the level of primordial slime sometime next year given current rates of decline…

I’ve concluded that the advent of social media is the biggest calamity to civilization since the Black Plague.

AI couldn’t be much better than the source. It just can amplify the good and unfortunatly also the bad in its source.

If it would only train off of NPR. Then it would become elitist and dumber.

Why do we not believe for real that AI will “learn” to be dumber just as humans did? It is the same social media training after all.

Isn’t this similar to AI hallucinations?

That is an outrageous conspiracy promoted by AI-ists who do not understand the true nature of human understanding – or something. :)
