This is probably payback for what dad did to his parents.

Actually, that is his college “frat” party picture after a few too many beers.

My nephew does the exact same thing! It’s a given that someone will have to tell him to knock it off. Now that he’s a little older, I open picture taking with, “[Name], you ruin this picture and I’ll kill you.” :-)

I can just hear that “CALVIN!” as in “ALVIIIIIN”

and the Chipmunks.

As a professional photographer I recommend Dad invest in a long cable release and while standing beside the camera talk to Calvin to get a pleasant smile out of him then shoot the pictures when he doesn’t expect it. I realize these are old strips but with digital he could shoot lots of frames and hope for a winner. Delete the rest.

Dad, at least this pic will help achieve your objective of keeping the relatives away… boy, I’d think twice before visiting someone whose kid looked like that, much as I adore the MAD look!

Sometimes a boy just has to do what he has to do. But I’m not sure Calvin had to do that one. That was just plain flat EEE-UUU-GLY.

This why I didn’t have kids.

That wasn’t a smile, folks, that was a dopey grin. And I don’t buy Calvin’s innocent act afterwards one little bit.

When i was a kid I did that once, twice, may be more…… I shut up now.

Reminded me of the sort of expression my son always got if a camera was pointed his way.

Dad should tell him NOT to smile and spoil the picture. Maybe then he has a better chance of getting a decent one.

I really hate having my picture taken, and I feel like, no matter hw hard I try, my face unintentionally looks like Calvin’s. His is on purpose though!

Hey, eddieal , Calvin is just a minute a day. Kids are for 24 HOURS a day.

Dad should get Mom to tickle him and get him laughing. Then quickly get out of the way while he snaps the pic.

Unlike some of the other Calvin’s I think this one because it’s set 20+ years ago Now it means more today then it did then. Because as it’s been said this is now the age of digital cameras… Just delete the bad ones and try try again. Let your mind return to the time when this was done and think about this. Dad will have to relive his frustrations and or anger all over again when he returns from his local …Photo Mat Store and looks at all those pictures! Too funny even today.

i can still feel the swat to the back of my head everytime i pulled one of these stunts. even when i think of pulling something off….i have to look around to make sure my ol’ man isn’t standing behind me.

this has to be one of my all time favorites!!!! can’t help but bust out laughing everytime!!!

Woodeye, I agree “What Me, worry…?” I was wondering just how many years old the strip IS? It’s still great, but noone has to worry about running out of film (just having to go recharge the battery)

I thought it was pretty creative on Calvin’s part. After all, it is a smile (grin or whatever).

That is not Alfred E Newman’s (the What Me Worry?) face. Not even close. BTW: did you know that years (lots of years) ago Mad had an Alfred look-alike contest? The winner? A very young Prince Charles. LOL

Calvin at 40 years of age three sheets in the wind. Either that or he’s still practicing for his (eventual) driver’s license photo. Can you imagine him driving - yoiks…

@Lonewolf No - the last good photo I had of me was in 3rd or 4th grade. My bad pictures are real. Maybe I try too hard?

Swatting him wouldn’t help. I used to take a fiendish delight in seeing how far I could push my dad before he totally lost it, and he used a belt. Calvin won’t stop.

One of my boys was simply unable to smile. He wanted to. He tried to. But all that came out was the tension on his face from all the effort.

Later on, his only effort was to not even attempt a smile, but that was a teenage attitude problem.

I’ve always been inclined to believe that this picture WAS Calvin’s legitimate attempt to smile right, but - what’s the old saying - do that too much and your face will freeze like that? The lesson Calvin needs to learn here is you reap what you sow.

For the last two years, the only photos we have of our son (19) are silouettes. It’s kind of funny.

Dad and his tripod I remember those days. He’d change the lenses, check the f-stop, and get out the light meter about ten times. He took great posed pictures but it drove everybody nuts while he was doing it! Miss you Dad!
