@JohnnyDiego -That’s why it’s useless to become part of a class action suit. But you’d better believe the lawyers made plenty of $$$ in the process. Win or lose, they always get paid.

I’ve always believed that in all phylogeny there is no precedent for the ontogeny of a lawyer. Guess I was wrong. Thanks, Mr. Miller.

Ih my experience as a surprised member of the “class” in a few class-action suits, I have come to believe that the law firm’s actual customer is not the people who were cheated, exposed to dangerous products, or whatever, but in fact the companies that did the deed. In return for a fee that, while hefty, is still pennies on the dollar compared to the company’s actual liability, the law firm gets the people who were wronged to accept pennies on the dollar, thus immunizing the company against its true liability. Win-win for the law firm and the company; only the victims—who, of course, must settle for the class-action payment or spend (by their standards) a fortune to fight bring an individual suit—lose.

As Shakespeare said, “The first thing we do, let’s kill all the lawyers.” Or maybe Danae’s new religion could ban them….

I just got a check for $70 as compensation in a class action suit against AT&T. Something about slow Internet connections. I guess the lawyers made out like bandits on that one.

Hate lawyers, but…when I’ve needed one and was able to find an honest one, they have been invaluable! They do good work when they care.

Years ago, my friends agreed to a “friendly” divorce, share and share their assets, no fuss, no muss. Then she was advised to get a lawyer. Soon they both had lawyers. Keeping it simple, when they were done, they had a divorce, and the lawyers walked off with over 70% of their joint assets. so the ’toon’s about right?

The problem, of course, is because lawyers aren’t compensated based on performance. You win, you get paid. You don’t, you don’t.
