Phoebe and Her Unicorn by Dana Simpson for September 30, 2012
Transcript:
The verb "to fall" means tumbling down like in the mud, right on my face. Or falling rain,, that makes my world a muddier place. A "fall," the noun, can mean a thing of beauty for heaven's sake. Just watch your hooves, because a fall can be a tragic thing to take. Phoebe: I didn't know your tail could do that. Marigold: I am even more amazing than we realized! But when the leaves are red and gold the wind is cool, the shadows tall, I celebrate the upper case delighting in the air of FALL.

Fall leaves can be pretty, but it means that cold temps are not far behind :-(

I like how Marigold is just now discovering her tail can hold her up from falling off that log. I wounder if that log was easy to fall off of? I also like the last frame, Phoebe with I think a snow cone? Marigold in that scarf. its cute.

The tail is awesome, Oh, and the poem too.

The steam from Phoebe’s hot beverage is more noticeable in the enlarged version. Now I want hot chocolate with marshmallows and a snuggly sweater and scarf! …and a Unicorn, too ; D

Sadly, in modern English, seasons have had their right to capitalization revoked, so there is only “upper-case” FALL for emphasis. I’ll go with that explanation here, and consider it a variant of all-caps. :-}

We’re assuming Hot Chocalate, but considering I am seeing elementary age kids with drinks from Starbucks, it might be something else.

Love the “scared cat” look of Marigold’s tail-tip in the second panel.

I rode a horse that tried to walk over a creek on a log for humans, he fell off about halfway across, as he never paid much attention to his back feet. It was six inches deep with another four inches of mud, so no harm, but hooves don’t grip well on curved surfaces.

“I am even more amazing than we realized!” said Marigold, calmly, as she hung precariously over the ledge with her frizzy-ended tail.
