I too will agree that I just going to pretend I didn’t read that.

Where did Dean get the idea Abrams was giving up Trek? There’s no evidence of that anywhere.

; ) At least that’s not as bad as thinking that Lord of the Flies is a sequel to Lord of the Rings… Or is it?

Star Trek is the one that periodically returns in the ‘improved’ version. Star Wars is the one that just keeps coming back (no matter what anyone does).

I once wrote a Star Trek sketch for a theater group I belonged to, based on the characters each member wanted to play. A couple of them didn’t know the difference, either, so Kirk rescued Princess Leia from Khan, and Chewbacca was there. McCoy thought he was a man being eaten by Tribbles. Scotty recognized him from having seen Star Wars on tape – Scotch tape, of course.

This reminds me of my 15 birthday. I spent the weekend after it with my father and on the way home we popped into the family owned toy store because my grandmother wanted to see me. There my dad grinned, showed me a shelf of Star Wars stuff and asked what I thought of it.

I shrugged, clearly not very interested and told him that Star Wars was all right but that I didn’t really like the new movie (it was shortly after Episode I came out) and that I liked Star Trek much more anyway. I didn’t get why he was in a bad mood afterwards until we got home, I unwrapped my Amidala themed birthday gift and realized that until that day he thought that Star Wars and Star Trek were the same thing.

If not for the toy store incident I would have faked liking it but it was kind of a lost cause after that :-/.
