Brutus: Another unwanted robocall offering to reduce the interest rate on my credit card balance!
Brutus: Why can't phones have spam-blocking programs like computers do?
Do Not Call List does help some, followed with a call screening answer machine, & finally Caller ID, which if you don’t answer calls you don’t recognize, should just about cover any & all phone spam calls.
@KA7DRE—-Don’t be a slave to your phone. You don’t have to answer it at dinner time. I don’t. If it is important, they will call back, or just let your answer machine handle it if you have one, & you can pick up if you hear someone start to leave an important message.
Caller ID isn’t that great when people can spoof their numbers, just google caller ID spoofing and you’ll see what I mean. Here in my state there is companies spoofing numbers to make people think friends or family are calling then trying to sell stuff. http://www.spoofcard.com/
Sad part about it, is it isn’t illegal unless doing it with harmful intent to defraud, cause harm, etc…http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2012/12/federal-judges-affirm-right-to-caller-id-spoofing-if-its-non-harmful/
It is even worse when a robocaller is using your friends or family information to call you to get you to answer.
My cell phone is also my business number. If I have answered a junk call or Googled the number and find it is marketing or some scam, I’ll enter it in my contacts and assign the “no ring” ring tone to it. After that, I hear the missed call beep once, and they can keep wasting their time for eternity without bothering me. “Put me on your no call list” means nothing to these scumbags.
Been with the Do Not Call thang for 7+ years and it does a pretty good job ‘til the “political” seasons come around. Then those companies that tell you they WILL NOT sell your info go into overdrive to do so. Caller ID is a great invention: if we don’t recognize the caller/name, we don’t pick up. The “out of area” calls? that’s a no brainer !!!

It really makes me mad when they call just when you sit down for dinner.

In the last 50 calls I’ve gotten, 32 were unknown callers, 10 from a nuisance business, and 8 from friends. Caller ID sure comes in handy.
