No big shock is it. This is a machine. Control unknown. Possible that they have been invaded by Top Siders and they are the ones who want the water to run like blood. This has nothing to do with Wally, Holly, Mauve or Linda. This is a totally different attack on the Endtown Ouch!!Blessed Be.
Well We now know who the one dissenter was in the nearly unanimous vote that the high council is doing a wonderful job, they should vote themselves a pay raise due to their wonderful performance review. After all if their plan goes through there will be less people in Endtown.
I wonder how anonymous it is when they start pushing forward the ideals they have vocally pushed when not on the council. I wonder if one of the other council members is Jacob Jackrabbit.
Albert doesn’t know who they are, but they know who he is; and that he doesn’t agree with them. So far just about all of the characters we have come to know as protagonists have been neutralized by the plotters. Things have gone from making a cake to pending major strife. I find myself nearing the edge of my seat again.
This strip tells us a lot about how the HC works. One, they take turns acting as foreman. Two, the foreman can interface with outsiders (like the mayor) to present a single presence. Three, the foreman can put topics up for vote and then pass orders on to the rats. Four, abstaining just means that you don’t press the Yes or No buttons.
Whoever’s providing a good time probably knows who a few council members are.Voice will probably find out that s/he’s considered a sinner when the Endtowners refuse to obey.It will be interesting to discover that Voice is Cooper. Cooper was rejected by Jackrabbit’s faction, and is bitter at the treatment immunes and mutants like him get, so he may have joined or started the human nature movement. If he somehow knows that Albert is 5, then he knows Albert would try to stop him.
“Council duty sucks” snicker..Coyoty has a point, someone out in the town knows who is called for council duty, because their loved ones are missing them..
Let’s see who’s left to oppose the streets running red with the blood of sinners…let me see…Holly is locked up with Linda and Maude…Doc Chase couldn’t get anywhere getting information and went looking for help that could…Mallard disclaimed influence over any actions of the Security Rats or the High Council…Mayor Walter got told off by the High Council…Albert sits on the High Council and has been neutralized by manipulations of the other current members. Who’s left to deal with this? Maurice? Philo Foxworthy? Gustine? Maybe Roxie will feel the guilt of her involvment and make a move…maybe Jake Jackrabbit will decide Allgood’s goals aren’t his and oppose him for that.#(Actually all that shows is that I’ve read the strip pretty close. I have no idea what’ll happen next.)
That fourth panel really reminds me of “The Operative” from the movie “Serenity”. Right before killing someone he’d ask, “Do you know what your sin is?” Like Captain Reynolds, my answer would be, “I’m a fan of all seven.”
I really have to dissagree with those who keep bringing up Jake. This “preserving our humanity” business is the LAST thing he would be involved with. Jackrabbit and Algood are at opposite ends of the spectrum. Jake would probably be all for using mutant eggs and milk, all part of “embracing your mutanity”. But really, isolated for a month in a closet and an intercom/vote-o-matic? No wonder someone has gone bonkers… ;-)
Notice that Al’s time on council must be almost over. He say’s he has been prevented from being Forman for an entire month. He is about to cycle out and try to do something about the corruption of the council.
If Al’s time is up on the council…he can leave…right? But, I can’t see the other council members taking that chance and letting him go with what he knows. My belief is they will definitely prevent it.
What a great auction image! I’m highly tempted by this one, I may have to think about bidding. Holly and Wally’s chase scene is one of my favorites.
(shakes fist at Jenner for snatching up the originals ;) )
If you’re enjoying the comic, I’d like to echo surfstuff55 in urging you to spread the word about the GiveForward campaign to help Aaron with his medical expenses: Keep Endtown Alive!
Every time I hear “Blood will run through the streets”, I imagine Beavis running around as the Great Cornholio. I’m sure this is just a Pavlovian response created during the 90s though.
AL!!!!! LONG TIME NO SEE!!!Too bad about this Counil Duty, huh? I hope this doesn’t interfere with your plans to marry Gustine.‘Cause last time I checked, it’s not illegal for a “Typhoid Mary” (according to the late Captain Flask. No offense intended!) to marry a rhino.
this is where the help and hope will come from. little obvious comment. I’ve just had to peak and run lately. Been busy. Later I will read all the comment for a few days.
Good thing that Al is on the council. OR IS IT? Remember the rules. You are picked, no one knows you are on it, you do not know who the others are. Can Al say outside he was on the council without putting himself and others in danger? If they can manipulate the system THEY know who he is. They had to have known so they could keep him from foreman duty the entire month. He has one weakness GUSTINE. Does he dare to put them all in very serious danger from unknowns who from the sounds and tones of the voices have no issues with killing. How much do you think he will be watched IF they let him leave. To TSOJ Not pressing a button to vote so abstaining would do no good. I believe they have hacked the system so regardless of what you voted it could be changed to their opinion. A unanimous vote of confidence in the earlier panel would turn their hand. Just always make sure they have the majority by slight adjusting the vote.ONE THINGDid you notice the door to number 5 had no handles.Once in you are there till THEY decide to let you out. From what Al just said it appears to near a month so a change is due. Al suspects and is now sure of tampering but how can he get it out with folks being killed himself, Gustine, others he knows to keep him quiet.Remember what the Council told Walt. How many feet do you think you will make it? How many feet do you think Al will make it KNOWING what he knows.
Who would be able to keep a watch on who goes up and down the elevator? Angus. I would think he has binoculars around to do visual inspection of the machinery when he doesn’t have to do a close-up. They’d be pretty handy whenever he notices the elevator moving.I can see it now. Every Tuesday and Friday at 8:00AM the elevator comes down and drops someone off. At 9:00 someone new goes up. The rats keep everyone away during that time who shouldn’t be there. After six years such a routine would develop because people like routines. There’s a list somewhere and it has been corrupted.
Finally – Al got a new set of glasses. He lost his in the… violent discharge in the first story (Volume 2 of the books), and I don’t recall seeing him with another set after that.
Endtowner1: Hey nicolette! Where’s bob? I haven’t seen him in about a month. Endtowner2: Eh, probably passing out anti-mutant byproduct propoganda or some such nonsense. I swear, I cook ONE omelette for the man and he goes nuts
There’s a possibility that Al is not the lone dissenter. Consider which is easier: Gaming the system of selecting council members at random, or hacking the communication/voting system. Each council member thinks he or she is the lone dissenter, for the vote always shows one in opposition of some off-the-wall scheme. In actuallity, our hacker could be making the vote show whatever he or they wanted, and manipulating the communications, Since none on the council know who else is serving, nor even their voices, they have no way of comparing notes afterward.
How many of us experienced having to use the operator to make a phone call? I remember my Gramdparents number was 181-W and a friend I had in the town had a number of 307-W. The phone didn’t have a dial on it. Just pick it up and wait for the operator to respond.
