Dad: "A toast to the newly engaged!"
Mom: "Congratulations to you both!"
Brad: "What is this, dad? Prune juice?"
Dad: "It's all we had"
Toni: "Tastes like a good year, though"
Mom: "You're going to fit right in"
ok everyone…Toni was wearing the same clothes as she was when she and Brad arrived…and knowing how they are both firefighters cut her some slack, she probably just grabbed whatever was clean to wear there…her dress for her wedding will be white though. The ring is on the wrong hand again, and I am wondering when Luann will find out and if she will be a part of the wedding as well….???
I am sooo happy for them! I did not know Nancy wouldtake it so well. Wow-this is so swell. I guess the thing wasshe did not know what Toni was going to do, break Brad’sheart, or ?This was hard to know for awhile, but yes!~ I am so happyfor them.I would like to see Luann’s reaction now. Wonder whatAE will think. :-)
After this, they are going to become reaaaly busy, real GO-getters… they might switch to another character arc, cuz they’ll be on the RUN for a while….
“with the prominent positioning of the hands, panel 1 is Greg saying to us all “see, I CAN draw the rings on the left hand!””
No, I don’t think so. This strip was drawn and submitted two months ago. Greg was not aware of Sunday’s mistake until Sunday.
No, if I were to guess, I would say that he was primarily going for the dramatic effect of both women having rings on their hands. With both ladies reaching at the same time with the same hand, and each one has a ring on the ring finger, it symbolically ties them together. Toni is now just one step away from joining Nancy in the sisterhood of married women. We should start considering as such.
I am hoping the engagement will go on for at least 2-3 years before they actually get married. There are too many pre-marriage comedic story lines, too many pre-marriage dramatic story lines, and too many other character’s reactions to have this be a wedding that occurs anytime before 2016…. at least I hope so.
“I realize the strip is normally submitted months in advance. I wonder tho if a last minute touch-up is possible?”
Anything’s possible, I suppose. However, I highly doubt that Greg would want to cause a lot of grief just so that he can prove he can draw the rings on the left hand, which was your original question.
MY question is why did Frank and Brad switch places between the first and second panels?
It likely has to be for the order of talk bubbles in the first and third panels. But it requires some awkward shuffling and repositioning all the same.
PMark, the “minimizing” protocol was developed by a team of commenting pro’s sometime in the winter— looks like it was Dec. or Jan. Several people said they would have to quit reading due to the time uploading. After which, MikeyJ (and Brdshtt, sometimes), courteously minimized their drawings.*Sneaking a peak, it looks like it was after mid-Dec. I’m at work so can’t find the exact date of thread now.*P.S. – I love your input too.
“was really expecting to see Luann and her happy dance today. Next week then.”
“there was one week of telling TJ about it. This week is letting mom and dad know, next week will be dedicated to Luann.”.How is Shannon going to take the notion of her world being turned upside down? Will she just be excited at first? How long before life changes begins to sink in? Since she has a child’s imagination I’m looking forward to the thought bubbles. .You’ve noted characters have been given a week to take part in the celebrations. I agree that Luann will have her time beginning next week.
@Dobby Wallace.“There are other uses for this board than obnoxious long posts and resets.”.Halleluiah and Amen! God knows we thought you’d never understand that. .“There are also secret codes for commiting terrorist acts hidden under one of the hands…”.Oh Dobby, we’d so hoped you’d stopped “communicating with UFOs”. Please, puh-eez start taking your medicine again.
“…create so much good karma for the board that you will negate the effects of my negative energy.”.Dobby I don’t recall such a lucid spell from you in the history of our friendship.
Speaking only for myself, I’d wince if this were so. I can respect people’s liking the reboot, but the JJ Abrams versions seem too “Hollywood-like” for me…. TOS, TNG, Voyager, Enterprise, even DS9 had a “Paramount” type feel, but the reboot to me, again, it just seems odd… certain scenes and plots in the 1st reboot just didn’t click for me… but I guess if they did it, it sure beats the umpteenth season of “American Singing and Voting But the Network Chooses For You While Quirky Judges Bicker For Failed Ratings”…..
“it even included some original cast members’ voices!” ^^Yeah, and I don’t remember why Mr. Koenig and Mr. Takei couldn’t do it (or was it the budget constraints?). The animation was nice, too! I don’t remember if it was Filmation or not…. I remember that they even had a few copies at Walmart for 15 bucks, and sadly, I decided that I could wait a week to pick it up….what was I thinking? Now on Amazon, it’s priced at a zillion dollars by some eager sellers…..
“think they’ll bring back the Gorn?”^^For the reboot? I can’t imagine how they’d pull off the Gorn, with the way the creatures looked…but, if they do another “time paradox”, they might feel more free to alter some of it, which I hope they’d have the sense not to do…..
Due to REGULATONS, today’s comments are brought to you by Edna FLOs juices, including the favorite of our beloved DeGroot’s, prune flavored….. Remember our jingle: “When you can’t get to where you wanna GO, you can still count on Edna Flo…”
“You’re in luck – I found it here for $20.99 and free shipping: http://www.amazon.com/Star-Trek-The-Animated-Series/dp/B000HEWEJ4”
“It does list George Takei as a member of the cast, Walter Koenig is listed as one of the contributing writers.”^^Thank you!! Thank You!! for the info on the casting, AND the Amazon info! Be right back!
They also had some $14.95s, w s&h is 18.00 which only slightly beats out the free shipping ones, and also they had some individual episodes for like $5 and under! Happy is my feeling…..
I wonder what to expect tomorrow? Will they wait till Monday to tell Luann? Or will she show that crazy ability she has to put stuff together? Or does she alreaaaady know?
When did that idiotic Star Trek thing hijack the Luann board? Why are you guys discussing the most overated TV show in history, HERE? Go join a Star Trek forum; not that I’m saying you guys should leave here, please stay and talk about Luann, you’re all pretty good people, just saying that not everyone is a Trekky… I’ve ALWAYS hated that show.
M.J.:“When did that idiotic Star Trek thing hijack the Luann board? Why are you guys discussing the most overated TV show in history, HERE? Go join a Star Trek forum; not that I’m saying you guys should leave here, please stay and talk about Luann, you’re all pretty good people, just saying that not everyone is a Trekky… I’ve ALWAYS hated that show.”^^uhh…. first comment was a S.T. Reference! Occaisionally, it weaved in and out…. maybe it was a break from the usual fighting that ALSO goes on on this board, with our usual cast… between the two, I would think it would be a little of a breather from that….
Sorry to split hairs, but there’s a diff between trekkers/trekkies to some….some say it’s one group who will buy or wear anything Trek related, as opposed to just enjoying the shows, depends on who you talk to….
For all the Star Trek fans, a new strip came out last Sunday, Zachary Nixon Johnson. Nor really a space story, but I think Trekies might enjoy it.^^almost seems like a sort of parody…. thanks for the tip!
“Scott, Charmin, Cottonelle, I suppose any of those will do”-——and too bad the vodka can’t leave with the juice, cuz then you wouldn’t get the hangover, at the same time as the OTHER unpleasant side effects….
HI SueBThat sounds what happened plenty of times in my life. Plenty of time in many situations never told me anything and I sure looked stupid too. One case: During the summer of 1979 I was a counselor at a sleep away camp for the disabled. During the first week of August it was arranged through the local Lions lodge to have Christmas in August and have Santa Claus fly in on a helicopter and wasn’t supposed to tell the campers nothing about it as it was a big surprise for the campers. Noone ever told to keep it quiet so it would be a surprised to the campers. So during the morning when we were getting the campers ready for breakfast I asked someone what time Santa in the helicopter was coming so I could be ready with my camera. The Other counselors to shut up it was supposed to be a big surprise. I than said NOONE TOLD ME TO KEEP IT A SECRET.I felt like I was an inch tall at that second. GEEZ.Another time when my mom said a neighbor found out she was pregnant and I didn’t know she didn’t tell her husband because she wanted to surprise him. OK I saw both of them later on in the day and gave her the baby crib toy to her and her husband. again I had to say NOONE EVER TOLD ME NOT say anything in front of him because she wanted to tell him herself. Again no one told me to keep that a secret until she told him. Again I felt like an idiot. OK that’s enough from me. Sorry for the loooong message but I wanted to get my point across, Thanks much and enjoy the weekend.
I apologize… I didn’t realize the impression I was giving… I just react when I hear the word trekkie, cuz I’ve been in the middle of that word being tossed around before… and as far as “Enterprise” for that female Vulcan, I know for a certainty that it sure didn’t hurt their ratings for as long as the show was on….
And, sometimes, I think Luann can pretty much guess what’s happening with others when she walks in a room… not always, but at certain moments, she seems like she can put 2&2 together…. I think she’d take a look and nobody would have to tell her… of course, I wonder if in some way, Toni may have let her in on what she planned on doing…. hmmm…
sjsczurek, style? Remember, we are talking about people who toasted an engagement with prune juice. :-0-I could be wrong, but I think I’ll stick with June for now. This arc has been moving right quick (though without Luann being involved), and I sorta expect that to continue for a while. Then things will shift to a somewhat slower pace for a bit, before another spike in the pace. (Luann’s first prom?)
Well, these comments have been fun to read. Here’s my two cents on Star Trek: Not a trekkie, but I’m a fan and I’ve enjoyed all the series (although Enterprise had some major shortcomings and disappointments). The 2009 movie reboot was also enjoyable. Altering the timeline was a brilliant idea; in future movies, the plots can go where no one has gone before (sorry, couldn’t resist) and fan(atic)s won’t be able to nitpick over events that don’t jibe with the original series. As for the animated series: a combination of good artwork and dreadful animation, so-so acting (the actors never got together in a studio to record thier lines, they read them individually into tape recorders and then the tapes were spliced together) and some good writing.
Sunday she learns of the engagement, and immediately starts on Toni about…”.A Sunday strip would surprise me, but it wouldn’t surprise me that much since we still have to bring our daily-only Sunday only readers along for the really big stuff. Now it makes sense.
reminds me of the Animaniacs episode with Mr. Shatner and Mr. Nemoy (or the parody names they were given) were “singing” karaoke and Mr. Shatmer (as he was called) kept hogging the mic….
“They could sing, just not well. I have Shatner’s album from about 40 years ago – couldn’t make it through the first “song”.”^^and if you heard scratches on the record, it ain’t from the grooves!
{ Because we celebrate your marriage ceremony we are very happy. You show your hearts perfectly, and we can see clearly that they burn together. May your life be long and may you go on being happy and also may you continue to support each other and also may your continue to admire each other. }
