Uh – Toni looks pretty good reaching up and tying her hair.

For my money, Toni is the most dynamic and interesting character in the strip. Quill has potential but he’s still something of an underdeveloped sketch. Time will tell.

Toni is wonderful, in more ways than one; or two; or three….Here, she is showing up the prattling guys, and Brad knows it (and doesn’t mind). It’s the usually bright (if often wrong-headed) TJ over whose head all is flying.

I believe Brad was being sarcastic. His point being that she obviously doesn’t need a man.

Think of the fun that Toni and Brad will have together in the future. Buying an old “fixer-upper” (whether it’s a car, house, boat motor, etc.). Working on it together! That’s compatibility!

Notice that Toni said she’d help. And “we’ll get you going in no time”. She’s helping, not dominating!

Suck it up, Brad…you and Toni are partners, remember?

I’m married to a woman who exemplifies the term “DIY” around the house and continually amazes males that a 5’1" female is more than capable with a saw, hammer or screwdriver. I’m proud as hell of her even though I’m all thumbs myself in the same scenario.

It’s like that scene in Rocky when someone asks him how he and Adrienne get along because they’re so different. He replies, “I dunno…She’s got gaps. I got gaps. Together, we fill gaps.”

I know I’ve said it a lot yesterday, and I guess I’ll have to say it again, today….-The “timing belt” thing was NOT a “technical manual” to fix cars by… it WAS a tongue in cheek/humorous/discreet way for Toni to get Brad “hip to” getting TJ up and running so that they could get on with the planning of their wedding and their marriage…—The “you should marry her/she doesn’t need a man” lines was to emphasize that Toni is smart and pretty (as IF that needed emphasizing)… it wasn’t to be taken literally….

Yes, I caught the seemingly early use of the torque wench, too. However, we don’t know what she is concentrating on at this precise moment. Perhaps she has spotted a peripheral part that can be adjusted quickly and then forgotten about as you move on to the bigger things.

Don’t ask me what. SHE’s the mechanic, not me. :-)

As for adjusting the timing belt, it could be that she recognizes the engine as one that is notorious for needing its timing belt adjusted.

Okay Greg, I’ve had to think up two reasons to cover for you in as many days. Let’s not go for three tomorrow, okay?

I agree! I don’t doubt that she does enjoy it… I don’t doubt that she doesn’t mind having a fiancé and a fiancé’s best friend around… -But that “timing belt thing” wasn’t there because of not knowing about cars… it would seem to make sense, (as they were talking about the time it’s gonna take ) if she made that play on words, since she could have wanted to get Brad to be more positive, to help encourage him to move it along, like a gentle nudge as part of the beginning steps of “lining up their ducks in a row”, as changes could be taking place… getting TJ in an honest business, and making it easier to have “her man” to herself… I speak as a married man and a former wing-man…. when one of the spouses says it’s time to go (NOT in the absolute total sense, of goodbye forever, mind you- but the kind like it’s couple’s time)… it’s time to go…

Still, the lady normally has hair down to her hips. She puts it in a ponytail, and now it is barely past her shoulders? What happened to all that hair?

I think you guys are making this far too complicated. Brad views the van as a problem. Toni views it as a challenge. All these secret messages and hidden agendas are really unnecessary.

Time works strangely in this world. Maybe she both just started working on it, and has been working on it for a while. In the same vein, this van is a comic strip van and may work differently than a similar one in the real world.

Never try to out guess Mr Evans cause tomorrow something completely new will surface.Remember this strip is called LuAnn and Others.

The person who introduced the issue of hair is male and so are about 99% of the responders. Hmmm….that tells us something.

My mom drove mechanics nuts because she would know what was wrong with the car when the mechanic couldn’t figure it out. She had a very good ear and could tell where the problem was. And this was in the 50’s – 60’s.

Toni has no history of being actively rude.

We’ve all told you TJ is not all bad. I’m glad there’s something you can identify with.

They both get to work on an engine, something they both enjoy, and they get to send TJ to AutoZone to use his money to buy the parts.”Brad just likes to be snarky with TJ. He isn’t really whining as much as it looks like he is. Frankly, he is wise to keep TJ aware that he is in their debt, rather than the other way around. TJ is not above taking advantage if they give him any opportunity to think he brought them something fun when he is actually begging for a huge favor.

He told both Luann and Diane that the reason he was always working on his car was that he liked it. He also was very excited when he found out that Toni was into cars and he was proud to show her the stuff he was working on with his.

And my personal belief is that Toni is intuitive enough that if TJ won’t totally be out of the picture (as she may recognize that he is the extra set of limbs that TJ has), that in getting this project going (IF possible), that it will give her a chance to handle some engine, and also hopefully keep TJ busy enough to get his business going, and to move ahead with their plans. Even if TJ weasels someone else (Brad) into more stuff, Even Brad recognizes the issues that will take place if the “Third Man” encroaches upon Toni’s turf…It has the possibility of turning into an issue ((I also use 4/11&12 as a reference)…. (cue Third Man Theme)

A sweet, beautiful woman who is even an expert mechanic! Put a ring on her while she is still available!!!

Toni’s a keeper. Pretty to look at and able to fix your machinery.Just keep her in tools.

But I guess TJ does have some redeeming qualities… and did offer to cater the wedding.. (Don’t let AmyGrantFan hear that word, though….lol! Don’t want her to keep getting disappointed that it’s not happening yet…) -And he’s got one or two friends… and Ann Eiffel makes him look like Mr. Popular and Mr. Clean….

…seems like these days a lot of folks have the perception/intelligence of a box of rocks…or maybe they just like “stirring the pot”…?…hmmm…

But can you imagine the torment for Brad if she shows up, just to say Hi, and ends up being the best of bestest friends with Toni? It was, after all, entirely like her to be oblivious to the inappropriateness of such a move.

Diane barely considers Brad human, let alone as a man.

If they haven’t turned key to ignite yet, that truck could explode! -(this time,hyperbole for comedic effect only, in case anyone wants to throw a “box of dumb rocks” or “while stirring up pots”….lol!)
