Frazz: I have to confess seeing that glow on the horizon this early is a little depressing. Miss Plainwell: That's not the sunset. It's the high school football field. Frazz: I know.
300 a month and up as an average of taxpayers money down the tubes depending on the size of the field and number of games at night.. http://www.sanduskyregister.com/mailbag/4449001
Or that college coaches shouldn’t have multi-million dollar saleries while the teachers struggle to survive? Where have you been? This is America! Land of the ego.
I knew someone who loved to look at the red setting sun through the trees across the river. She was crushed when I told her it was the neon sign of a nearby motel. (Sometimes the truth hurts.)
I think it’s more that the HS football season has started already, rather than simply the existence of HS football. Thus “seeing it so early” is what is depressing.
And teach the kids with brains and other talents, that might last longer and make more of a difference in the world and/or bring entertainment to more people in the world, that they don’t matter. After all, the bright kids don’t need extra teaching, because they’ll figure it out on their own; the musical and artistic kids don’t need extra teaching, because they’re just “good” at it; but the tiny handful of athletes needs coaches and trainers and equipment and fields so we can beat (Big Rival) this season!
our society loves people throwing a ball. it loves it more than medicine, science, math, art, etc…they will protect that sport with a ball with every fiber of their being. even, if those student-athletes did something illegal(murder, rape, drugs, etc…).
It used to be that high school stadiums didn’t have lights. The games were played on Saturday mornings. I never understood why they’re played on Friday night now. I agree that there is far too much light pollution.
By early, I would guess it has to do with games happening so early in the school year. In some places, school has not even started yet. Some places still wait until after Labor Day to start.
School sports are the bottom rung of a ladder that a couple thousand can make enough to live on for maybe six years. Then they, like the rest, live with a lifetime of pain and often an early death. If schools were really interested in mens sana in corpore sano, they would teach real subjects and lifetime sports.
Yo, people, this is sunrise not sunset. I would assume that it’s the marching band getting field practice before the football teams show up in the morning.
Saw a U.S. map which listed those public positions which were the highest paid. As I recall, approximately five were NOT athletic coaches. Not that anybody listened, but that remember that guy from Nazareth saying something about you heart being where your treasure is?

Deep setup(A romantic date) for a excellent joke, especially since the moon glows white in the night sky.

What? Did you think schools were for education?

I assume Mr, Mallett resents that the school supports a football team rather than a cycling team.

I sense a lot of pent-up frustration in some comments.

Good job. Jef Mallett must hate high school sports as much as I do.

Don’t forget the marching band is on that field too! And before you say it’s easy, YOU try jazz running backwards with a tuba on your shoulder!
