I was just yesterday wondering if we’d ever see current-day Bernice without her glasses. And now here she is! Sometimes I scare me. :-) Can’t say she looks better without them, alas.

Wow, cute guys at Pitts. It’s always kind of startling to see other, random students. You know our seven or eight kids aren’t the only ones, but it sure seems that way after a couple decades.

If I could say this without incurring a lot of hating, I like to think that Crystal has seen Knute without his glasses. Or maybe I’d just like to see him without them. I bet his eyes are blue.

Luann will discover the truth regarding what attracts males by trial and error. She just held a trial and found the saying was in error.Can truth be far away?

I think sometimes Luann wears that Boomerang inside her blouse close to her ample…..Heart, Yeah, thats it. ☺

She is not Lucy, she is not Gidget, she is not Peppermint Pattie. She is just Luann. You are constantly trying to squeeze her into other characters’ shoes. She is a perfectly good character in her own right and doesn’t need to be a clone of anyone else.

The boyfriends seem to exist just to let us know that Luann is adorable. (We have to be told that explicitly, on account of Luann’s “inner beauty”.) Those boys have little substance on their own, when not worshiping Luann.

Cute guys not noticing Luann-with-glasses. Just as well; she’s got Quill to take care of. Bernice without her glasses looks nearly blind; I wonder if contact lens would work for her?

Grow up.

I see no indication of sluttiness here. and I strongly suggest that we never will.

Don’t blame Luann – we all wonder at times if we still (or ever) have what it takes to attract attention. And it’s so discouraging when it appears we don’t!

I have always been more attracted to ladies in glasses, regardless of what they might do squint, whatever…

Luann wouldn’t know how to be a slut if her life depended on it.

@Tinyman:I don’t recommend self-darkening glasses. Please talk to your optometrist before you spend money on those. My info is more than a decade out of date, so I could well be behind the current technology, but I wore a few pairs for several years in the 90s and early 00s. After a while, they got slower and slower to fade, but just sort of became permanent sunglasses. My optometrist suggested better ways to have my lenses treated to reduce glare, some sort of polarizing this-n-that.

Again: I could be out-of-date on this, but please check with a professional before you spend serious money on self-darkening glasses.

You’re kidding right?They’re barely aware of their surroundings…

I don’t hate Quill as much as some of you do, but I do think he’s a lot less — I don’t know, “damaged” than most of the other characters in the strip. Frank, Gunther, Knute, Ox, TJ and even Brad have their endearing character flaws that make it easy to write gags around (although Brad gets an asterisk, because he’s done a lot of growing up recently — which makes him one of my favorite characters here).

Quill just isn’t all that messed up. He handled things with Tiffany (from what we saw, anyway) with maturity and poise. He didn’t make a fool of himself at the farewell party, and came off as quite mature in his conversation with Gunther. He’s decent, kind and wise. It’s hard to poke fun at a guy like that, at least in a “gag-a-day” format.

Like Delta, he’s best used as a foil for other characters to play against — and you’ll notice we only see Delta when Greg needs someone for Bern and Lu to look sillier than, or to fill space in a large panel. Quill is eventually going to find True Happiness with someone a little closer to (his) home, and Luann will be “set free” to behave as she always has and always will.

Thanks for giving Luann your glasses Bernice! Your glasses must some special power when you ONLY wear them.

Please don’t try to include ALL of us in your sweeping condemnation of Quill.

So what happened to Quill. Is he coming back or not? Where is the boomerang necklace? Luann was wearing it constantly but now? What did I miss?

Whatever happened to the guy in the wheelchair Bernice once dated?

Some guys do not like girls in glasses on the basis that the gal might be smarter than the guy. Those guys expect women to be interested only in the homelife.

Writers get their ideas from a number of sources. That doesn’t mean they rip it off in full and make their own character lock step for the rest of forever. The new character is still the new character and will grow, independent of whatever inspired it.

The “mystique” of wearing glasses is to make people think you’re a heavy reader, and thus an intellectual. Even with Bernice’s glasses, Luann can’t pull that one off!

The boys in her school are astoundingly attractive— or else the bad focus of the glasses are to blame. Quill would be insecure, but that attractive guys are often SO shallow.*That said, Luann and Bernice have been back in school over two weeks. Is Quill flying in, or are his arms still tired?

Ever hear of the term “play on words”? That’s what I’m doing. I never claimed that the lyrics themselves had anything to do with it.
