That old gang is on the brink of splitting up!With Luann at Pitts CC, Bernice at Moony Uni, they will apparently be pretty close to one another (Moony Uni is said to be “here”; hence, either in Pitts or nearby, so " Pitts Municipal University" is a good guess for its full name). Delta’s choice of Howard is excellent, if she can get in. I have some (slight) familiarity with Howard and have been on its campus for an event; I am also acquainted with its current president, from a former job of his. But of course D.C. is far from California, where Pitts seems to be. We’ll have to wait to see how this all works out….Yikes!

Let Lu find Out that a Certain Other Person (like Say, Oh I Dunno, Tiffany maybe) is Going to Moonbat U. Our Heroine WILL be Switching From “Junie” to “Moonie” in a QUICKIE.

Its Just as Well though. The “Moon” is NOT a SAFE Place to Be these days, What with the Giddy Chinese Up There Tooling around with Their R/C cars and TEARING Up the Moonscape.

Ok, so the scene is partially set, now. As expected, Lu stays in town (I gather to interact with whomever remains in town). Bernice will still be close by at Moony Uni. Although I wonder what will happen in re: Quill also being at Moony Uni as well? :-PPP Then again, Bernice has to be around to give Lu her daily dose of “snark.”

Looks like Delta will be departing the strip. I guess they had to make room for new characters. Sorry to see her go. Hopefully she’ll return for the holidays, etc.

So now we need to determine what will happen with Tiff, Knute, Crystal, Ox, and Gunther, and the other seniors. Fogarty I think will find work moonlighting at either Pitts CC or Moony Uni. Not sure about Phelps…She might retire, but I’m not sure if she’ll be replaced, as we no longer need the setting of Pitts HS. Unless Bernice eventually succeeds her there.

What might be interesting is if Lu, given her talents with children, eventually ends up teaching at Pitts HS and Bernice is the GC there… They can butt heads as adults! :-PPP

Yeah, there’s no law that adults can’t say “yikes” or “zoinks” or “yackety-sachmackety”, either…. those words are acceptable… it seems that today’s teen/young adult in training has a pre-set idea of what adults are “supposed” to be like ….. – But, I guess all teens through the years think like that…we think we know what being an adult means, that it’s either thiis thing or that, and then we try to distance our adult selves from our teen selves, and say things like: "look at those freshmen " or “look at those juniors… they are so immature” (though in reality only a bit apart from them, their own selves)….. – So interesting that at that age, we think we have an idea about what it’s all about, and then life and experience show us, and then we actually find out what it’s all about…

“Pitt” is presumed to be patterned after San Marcos, CA, where Greg Evans lives and works. “The local junior college” would therefore be Palomar College, which is in San Marcos. What is not clear is whether “Moony Uni” is CSU San Marcos, which would be local, or whether it is San Diego State University, or UC San Diego, or some other school in that city. If so, then it would be about 25 to 40 miles away from Pitt, depending on just where in the “Municipality” it is.

It was Luann herself who admitted she has no talent and no goals. See the December 9 strip. Whether you think she has talent is irrelevant; if she thinks she doesn’t, then she will continue to wander through life aimlessly (except to get a boyfriend, of course).

Probably just a one day transition… there have been times when Greg did a two day “synopsis”, then did a 3-4 day storyline…. – My guess is that there will be two other characters in a new arc starting either tomorrow or Wednesday…. at first, I was leaning towards a TJ story, but now that I think about it, maybe a transition to Tiffany and her feelings, since the “after school care scare”….

“Dude,” unfortunately, reading must not be one of your strongest suits. If you go back to my comment… I never said anything akin to you or any student “not [being] capable of finishing school or focusing”. What I was suggesting was (just like Luann) that many students who are NOT really interested in an educational goal will drift into a Community College situation, take a bunch of disjointed classes that will not move towards a goal, and then complain like heck when they finally DO have a goal and try to transfer their 90+ Community College credits to a 4-year school and only about 20 credits transfer into what they now want to be their major.+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++You can have any CHOICE you want, joel. Yet, I would suggest that you READ more carefully before you spout off like you often seem to.+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++Community Colleges are great places for two year programs. They can be acceptable places for students to transfer to 4-year schools… BUT ONLY IF THE STUDENT IS CAREFUL, FOCUSES VERY INTENTLY ON WHAT THE 4-YEAR SCHOOL WILL ACCEPT, and REALIZES THAT EXTRA CREDIT IS FOOLISH AND A POOR WAY TO EARN A GRADE. To my manner of thinking, Luann is not going to be particularly successful at Community College because a) she is NOT FOCUSED, b) has no real clue as to what she wants to do, c) has no real inclination at the moment to pursue anything other than her boyfriend, and d) she will probably just enroll in any course that strikes her fancy at any given moment.

And there are a couple of other reasons for starting at a community college (now called ‘state school’ in parts of Florida). One reason: if you aren’t sure what you want to pursue, or have more than one possible interest, taking core classes at the state school can give you a sampling of a field and help you decide whether you are really interested in, say, pursuing training in animal medical care. And another very good reason is, if you feel overwhelmed at the thought of the typically large classes at a four year college, and fearful that you might fall behind and not be able to get personal attention, community colleges and state schools often have smaller classes that help if you start to find the material confusing.

    -

I didn’t start at a state school, but at a (former) small college that has since expanded to university size. I had graduated high school with 600 other kids, and we were in huge classes. I always struggled with math. At the smaller school, I was not as hesitant to ask the profs to repeat proofs. The disadvantage: when I found out what I wanted to do, I had to transfer to a university, because the archaeology classes I needed for that major weren’t taught at my small school.

In this day of inflated college costs, even being a brain doesn’t guarantee that you can afford to go wherever you want. Two out of three of my brother’s kids got partial scholarships to Princeton; the middle one was turned down for funds, got a partial scholarship at another, smaller school. But her partial scholarship only covered part of her expenses, so she had to work AND take a loan. She is now working two jobs to try to pay off the loan, and, like her brother and sister, is a ‘brainiac’.

These days nobody mentions the Unification Church connection very much, and it doesn’t seem to have damaged the university’s reputation (they actually seem to have a better reputation these days than prior to Rev. If Luann goes to Pitt CC, I assume she’ll live at home to save money. Bernice could live at home too, if Moony Uni is in fact within an hour or so drive from Pitt. (We haven’t been told how far away it is.) Delta is genuinely going away to college, and I suspect Rosa is too. If Moony Uni is close to Pitt, then Quill will likely go there. Gunther will go to Pitt CC so that he can keep living with Mom. Tiffany will go to Hollywood, Crystal will go to Moony Uni, and Knute will flunk out of Weenie World.

The way I see it playing out is Tiff will be at Pitts with Lu. Crystal will end up at Moony. Rosa will either go east to Ivy league, or if she stays near home, she will be at UCLA..

With Rosa’s intelligence (and her parents’ financial status), I’d be thinking “Stanford” more than UCLA, if staying on the West Coast. But I also think she will go eastward to Ivy League and/or study abroad in Europe (which is what her parents want). Not sure if Gunth will follow her there or not. Again, if Lu and Gunth are eventually destined for each other, probably not.
