Our daughters rarely care about the toy that comes with kids’ meals. Sometimes, if it something they don’t like (like a SpongeBob toy) they will actually return it to the counter. I don’t make them; it’s something THEY do.
We took our son to restaurants from very early on. He only made a terrible appearance once at age 4, when we had to break off the meal and go home. He still (18) has good table manners when eating out. At home it was (and sometimes still is) a totally different story.
Because you’re ill-raised little snots. I went to such “posh” places with my parents at a lesser age than he. Knew how to behave, too, which kept me from being tossed when I spilled a whole glass of milk on their beautiful wine-red carpet. You see, Cindy, the strip is passably amusing BECAUSE they’re ill-raised little snots. Watching them behave properly in this or any other restaurant would be pretty dull.
@MeGoNow and JPuzzleWhiz – I agree… It’s just a comic and wouldn’t be amusing if everyone was perfect, and cindy needs to get over herself! While I would do things differently than the characters in this strip, it’s the extreme behavior and comments that make the point and make it funny. If you don’t find it funny or amusing, why do you read it? To make yourself feel superior by picking on every tiny thing that you can find wrong with it? Believe me, no one else thinks any better of those who constantly criticize. Most of us just ignore you…
I’m always amazed by how many comments are complaining about the characters’ behavior (which is why I usually don’t read them). If you dislike the strip, why read it? Just to complain? (Reminds me of a relative of mine…)
Teaching 1 child table manners (proper restaurant manners) is not very hard. My granddaughter was eating at restaurants many times a week(our business took most of our time. She sent back a steak when she was 4 because is was too well done, she liked rare). It was fine with us, as long as she was behaved. Her little brother and cousins are just impossible in restaurants, they feed off one another and soon they are animals. When you see 2 kids misbehaving, pity their parents, don’t blame them.
Is it just me, or does it seem that Elly doesn’t like being a mom and a wife. There’s something about her attitude in these comics that make it seem like she’s not happy with her life.
“Turkey Bacon” is neither turkey nor bacon. It doesn’t look like either, cook like either, smell like either, or taste like either, It is at best a misnomer, and a product manufactured (and manufactured product) designed to allow people to fool themselves into thinking they’re eating “healthier”. I’ll take a couple rashers of the real deal over a pound of the pretender any day.

Ellie you earned the night out with John. You may ask Calvin’s mother if she will join you.

They used to have one of those on display at NAS Norfolk, Va. Not sure if it’s still there though.
