Luann: "Let's talk about the prom. What color-" Quill: "When is prom?" Luann: "April" Quill: "And we're talking about it NOW? Can't it wait?" Luann: "Why? Hoping someone better comes along?" Quill: "Yeah. Nicole Kidman" Luann: "Isn't she a bit old for you?" Quill: "But we speak the same language" Luann: "What, you don't understand me?" Quill: "You're discussing a date in April. So, no" Luann: "Men" Quill: "Women"

“Save The Date”….Wait- is someone trying to steal it?.. – Did someone not do their job at the calendar factory?…Did they forget to glue it on, or something?… – Is it time to donate to the “Borrowed Time Foundation”, again?…. – In this “Battle Of The Sexes”, neither one can seem to find a bridge to come to understanding….nor does either of them seem to be able to “find each other on the map”, in order to engage “the enemy”…. – In the language of one of them, “details” is loosely translated to the phrase “don’t sweat the small stuff”, and a “planner” is roughly equivalent to “person or time management aid who helps you be dressed and waiting at the door for an event light years ahead of schedule”….

Well, here we have Luann and Quill discussing the prom. It seems to me that Greg is going through the couples he has brought together and making some strips about theml discussing going to the prom… ;)
Belinda Banana Ana almost 11 years ago
Author’s logic: “Totally random dialogue” at the end make somebody say, “men,” or “women.” Automatically funny.
Always gets on my nerves for some reason :P

Its not April just yet…but, I suspect by the time we all get there, everyone in Luannverse will have had their chance to discuss going to the prom and then Actually attending it… ;)

I agree with Quinn. What’s up with the premature prom talk?
luann1212 almost 11 years ago
In this comic world Quill and Luann seem to be dressed for Fall. Or if its winter, it’s pretty warm there given the winter the real U.S. has been living through this year.
JayBluE almost 11 years ago
Quill must have people coming up to him, trying to remember his name as they greet: “Hey, Quinn!… It’s Quinn, isn’t it?”….
ORMouseworks almost 11 years ago
He (Quill) must not have ever taken a girl to an Australian prom or he’d not be so Dense! ;)
jemgirl81 almost 11 years ago
@ORMouseworks: I like that poster’s comment as well. :) Yes! I agree. It will be interesting to see what Tiffany will do. Wouldn’t it be crazy if she were prom queen and Quinn were prom king. Luann would blow a gasket haha!
JayBluE almost 11 years ago
For us guys, that’s as much time as it takes. Put on the tux, voilá!…. - For us, perfection doesn’t usually take as long…

Re: purchasing prom tickets early…a another upside to this would be to let the organizers know how many kids might be going, and then making tentative plans such as what decorations to purchase, etc. ;)
JayBluE almost 11 years ago
Prom around here, is usually in May.
ORMouseworks almost 11 years ago
Yes, better news of young people enjoying themselves than all of the crap that happens all over the world…its nice to just watch kids having fun! ;)

Manfred Mann did the “the Mighty Quinn” in the late sixties.and I think The Grateful Dead did a version too.

In our family, we love cats! (And dogs, too…) – Actually, over these parts, we’re trying to go paperless with everything (as much as possible), though… I end up having to either shred a lot of stuff, or end up having to pitch a lot of extra stationery out… sometimes, I may even drop off extra stuff at the “Goodwill” or a similar place… – I’ve even managed to end up with some extra calendars from over the years… it’s almost like keeping wine, where you say: “Oh, 2009… that was a good year!”… – You might also want to check with the folks over at the “Citizen Dog” strip, too…
barbarasbrute almost 11 years ago
Not today, but for the past few weeks we’ve been around 88 in Arizona. For some reason, we haven’t had a winter this year. I think Mother Nature is on drugs and shipped a double dose of it back east.
JayBluE almost 11 years ago
I was thinking of suggesting looking up on Facebook, too… – The only thing is, being able to exchange P.I.I. (Personally Identifiable Information) in a place with unsecured pages (where your profile is accessible to anyone who wants to look you up)…. It would be nice if there was a secure way to do so, without drawing attention…. – In addition to the Target hacking in the news, locally, at a major medical/legal university and the major teaching hospital in the area, they’re trying to get to the bottom of who hacked into the database and got the personal information for the employees and students of the teaching hospital attached to the college and it’s system (which information is also used to format the electronic swiping cards for them, there)…..
JayBluE almost 11 years ago
And on the subject of winter, check out the “Speed Bump” strip….

Luann’s constant sideways test questions lay bare her insecurities. I wonder when she’ll get cool Greg?

Never understood the fuss about prom. Some people spend more on prom than I spent on my wedding. My mom made my prom dress and I did my own hair and makeup. We went to the prom in my date’s car. We came home at midnight. And I had a great time.

Even Quill and Luann are like so many men and women who do not understand the other’s way of thinking. But at least they’re playful about it, rather than arguing bitterly.
And, just for the memories, Manfred Mann, The Mighty Quinn, a.k.a. Quinn the Eskimo….
JayBluE almost 11 years ago
Wow, you sure have a whole lot to spew about nothing…………Again….^I realize it’s your schtick, and all, but……It’s Saturday … don’t you take a day off?… To enjoy something besides “sweating acid”?…

Angelalex242 almost 11 years ago
That’s a casual, easy relationship. I get why Quill’s relaxed about it, he might not realize proms are cheaper when you ask earlier. If Luann puts it in terms of ‘prom tickets are cheapest now and go up in price every week’ he’d practically ask her on the spot.
EighthAt14 almost 11 years ago
Color? For him, black. For her, anything that matches black. Which is anything.

Anthony Quinn played an Eskimo (named "Inuk’) in the 1960 movie “The Savage Innocents”. When the Manfred Mann song came out, I assumed that was the basis of it, until I read the Bob Dylan quote that it was a simple nursery rhyme. Who knows.
Anyway, back on topic, I agree with Quill. Considering how tedious this “prom” theme has already become, the prospects of stretching it out until April are painful to contemplate. I hope the strip changes plots to something else, such as the students’ being accepted (or rejected!) by the colleges they applied to. That’s always a huge part of this time of year, more so than a school dance.
EighthAt14 almost 11 years ago
One would think so. But I’m old enough to remember the 1970s, so I’m not surprised by anything. (And nowadays, even “traditionally” minded people don’t always get it right.)
locake almost 11 years ago
Luann might want to make sure Quill is actually planning on going with her. It sounds like she just assumes they are going together. He seems to have different thoughts.
She should just pick out whatever colors she likes and then tell him a week before the dance.
EighthAt14 almost 11 years ago
In fact, I was one of those.
sportbuff01 almost 11 years ago
does quill have his hand on luann’s behind ?
EighthAt14 almost 11 years ago
If I’m Pa, I’m hiring a town car. Stretch limos are for groups of three or more.
EighthAt14 almost 11 years ago
And if Sonny is near his full growth, I’d buy him a tux. Something from a good outlet store might be as good a deal as a rental.
Bucinka almost 11 years ago
Please don’t put her in black, Greg. Luann is a Spring. (http://www.colormebeautiful.com/seasons/spring/index.html) That spring green number you had her in this past fall was a better color choice. I’m seeing her in tomato red. Salmon, coral, or aqua would also be good.
Bernice, however, IS a Winter, and will kick ass in that black dress you had her trying on this week!

I ♥ women!
JayBluE almost 11 years ago
Colors for men’s tuxes have changed to the point that the “rules” about certain colors worn after dark don’t seem to even apply, anymore… now, they may even wear a white jacket, black pants and the thing that brings them together are the color choices of the shirt and tie. – I surmise that part of it has to do with wanting to coordinate with the girls, as sometimes the girls will give their “recommendations” to their date…
JayBluE almost 11 years ago
Perhaps that’s why Columbia waited so long to release the later installments of Dylan’s “Basement Sessions”..

Yeah, we’re gonna be “butting heads” this season… Why did we have to share the AL East?… Lol!….

DamSkippy almost 11 years ago
Can’t it wait? Good grief. What profound topic of conversation would he rather have that just can’t wait to answer her simple question? Would it be so hard to just answer her, instead of a snarky comment? And – If he would rather be with Nicole Kidman, I’d tell him good luck with that, and walk away. Rude on two counts.

I do, but when it approaches 300, I opt out. Do read some of my favorites, however. I scroll down to the avatars; in the case of no avatar chosen, I just look at the name of the poster…makes it easier that way and I get an idea of what is/has been going on! ;)
