Yes, Delta may just become president…and a darn good one, too! ;)

Ah, yes….I remember the last dying days of my 12th grade year….all of a sudden coming to grips with the fact that I was not going to see these people again, most of them maybe even never. I was sad. Even for some of the ones I wasn’t particularly close to. Just felt weird.

They won’t do lunch at the White House. When Luann and Bernice arrive there for their reunion, President Delta will coerce them into giving the Sloppy Joes and Lime Jello to feed a needy family. And then she’ll hold a press conference to shame them for having gone to the Prom in ’14.

I dont know about anyone else but I always like seeing how time progresses in these things, (the characters have been in HS for HOW MANY years?)

I went to my 10-, 20-, and 25-year class reunions and my mom went to her 50th four years ago. She didn’t go to her 10-year reunion in 1970 because of me and my brother (I was a baby and my brother was a toddler), nor did she go to her 25th in the mid-80’s. When she finally did go to the 50th, she found out that her best friend in H.S. had already died, as did some of her other classmates. But. . .that’s life.

I attended college in D.C. and enjoyed it; but I was also glad to get home to Chicagoland for Christmas break and summers…. I wonder if Delta will fade from the regular Luann cast after she sets out for Howard….

Is Greg going to spin off a new strip about Delta or is she simply going to disappear?

It’s fun to compare today’s comic with yesterday’s “Luann Again” as the three girls are at the steam table then and now.Bernice is wearing practically the same shirt, and Delta the same earings.

As someone who teaches at a “COMMUNITY” college —
1. Very few places refer to them as “Junior” colleges anymore —2. Why is it seen as a bad thing that Luann will be attending a community college?
Really, it makes it seem as if her education will be of lower quality and that she’s not smart enough to make it into the local university. I treat my students to the same level of material that I did when I was teaching at the local university, I have the same expectations of my students, and I turn out some very good students.
You know what we are lower in? Class sizes, cost, and the amount of anxiety many of our students fell in the large Liberal Arts classes taught at universities.
Thank you for taking the time to read this.

I wonder if Delta and Bernice are about to be written out of the strip?
ACTIVIST1234 almost 11 years ago
With all this build-up, intuition tells me Delta is going to move back home after the first semester— homesick, crime, or something.

And in about 5-6 years there will be babies to change, laundry to wash, supper to fix for hubby, and to be in bed by 9 (and up at 2 to change the baby).

When you say failure in community college or junior college is usually related to poor grades in high school, you show the college is not at fault or at least may not be at fault.(I went to Pensacola Junior College, currently renamed Pensacola State College) then Auburn University.)
Argy.Bargy2 almost 11 years ago
-You didn’t hear it here. What Bernice said to Delta was ’you’ll RULE’, not you’ll CHANGE’-Two very different things.
locake almost 11 years ago
I’ve never seen any school cafeteria where students are allowed to serve themselves. Nor any that had bowls instead of plates. And I don’t see a sneeze guard to partially protect the food. Looks very unsanitary.
Argy.Bargy2 almost 11 years ago
-Quill is also attending Moony, and Gunther. Are those two also being written out. If so, there is going to be a drastic change-But this would be the perfect time for a drastic change. As most of the posters to this site have noted, many have not been in touch with their best high school pals for years since leaving (for military, jobs, college, or what). And some passed away. This is actually what often happens.-I made it to my 40th HS reunion a few years ago. There was a memorial exhibit to classmates who had been KIA in Vietnam, as well as some who died stateside. I saw a few of the ‘kids’ I’d spent almost every day with, too, till we left high school. We all just went in different directions, for a lot of reasons.-It’s been years since I was in college, too, and I’m not in touch with most of the crowd I spent time with there. So I don’t think most Luann readers would be really surprised if Lu finds new bffs at community college, and even a new love interest.-I’m hoping she meets someone who values personal life as well as career.

Come graduation this strip may well end.
seyleigh almost 11 years ago
Definitely! Whenever my younger cousins talk about going to a four-year immediately, I always try to talk them out of it by telling them the amount of debt many of my friends are in.
And it’s only a small percentage of people who go to community colleges with a bad high school GPA and actually pass. Most are there to save money, or because the class times are more convenient.
David Huie Green LoveJoyAndPeace almost 11 years ago
Another way to consider the little boomerang is that it means, “I shall return to you,” which he did.
David Huie Green LoveJoyAndPeace almost 11 years ago
To further save money, some states — all for all I know, but definitely some — have dual enrollment for eveventh and twelfth graders which count for college credit as weii as high school credit. There have been some who received their high school diploma then a couple of hours later their AA or AS from PJC, half their college expenses thereby already avoided.
Argy.Bargy2 almost 11 years ago
-The strip is not ending with high school graduation.-It’s interesting that so many posters on this site share that idea, because I see it on the ArcaMax site, too. Although most of those posters don’t seem to be aware of Karen’s existence and are saying that they don’t think Evans has anyone ready to take over for him. I haven’t been able to post to that site (they won’t take my registration) or I’d have let them know about Karen.
Argy.Bargy2 almost 11 years ago
-create that drastic a change.-Actually, because Luann is going to go to a community college, it doesn’t have to be as drastic. She would most likely live at home, since most community colleges don’t have a lot of dorms or reserve them for the kids who are now pursuing the (few) longer programs available. So mom, dad, Puddles, Brad and Toni would still be in the picture. And where Toni goes, there will still be Shannon.-If any of Luann’s high school classmates ends up at the Community College, there would be some continuity there, too. That might be a way of hanging onto Crystal.-The posters on the Arca Max site were suggesting possible spin-offs, and that might be a way to keep up with Bernice and Delta. Especially if they appeared only on Sundays, like Wylie’s ‘Homer the Reluctant Soul’…

Luann can spend the next 2 years at Pitt CC, making new friends. Then she will probably go to Moony Uni for her last 2 years of college, where the strip can have her interacting with various ones of both the “old” and “new” sets of friends, and the strip can phase out the other ones (from both sets) that the readers (or the creators!) have grown tired of. I so much hope TJ will be on that latter list.

Why did that make me think “Carpenters” ? ^I… I don’t know… although they were pretty good at covering a lot of songs. Though it could be the “sentimentalness” of the song that would remind one of the Carpenters…..

No? Luann could be Curly, Delta Moe, and Bernice Larry.

I used to love the phrasing and timbre of Karen Carpenter’s contralto crooning, but since I saw “1408”. it creeps me out.

My favoirte song by them is is “Mistral Wind”… – Incidentally, the bassist from ’82-93, Mark Andes, was also the bassist for another of my favorite bands, Firefall….. and interestingly, he was also a member of Canned Heat…..

“People who go to community colleges are there usually because of low grades…”
That is So Not True! As DBjorn said, s/he expects the same out of her/his students as s/he did when s/he taught at university. A lot of students who go to CC do so after work in the evenings. These students are Really Motivated and ignore the "party people’. In fact, I never met Anyone who wasn’t serious about getting a certificate or a CC degree while I was a student in several different CCs. I never met anyone who hung out in the back of the classroom just taking up space. Also, I tend to think that the instructors at a CC have more of a caring attitude and want to see their students succeed in life… ;)
