Before I sign off, it being Monday and all (well, almost), here’s a little gem I found by J. Swift: “Laws are like cobwebs, which may catch small flies, but let wasps and hornets break through.” -The Oxford Dictionary of Quotations, Third Edition. Well, the book is closed, the lights are out, and so am I…’nite all! See ya in the funny papers!… ;)
In Minnesota, you can gamble in a casino if you are 18, but if you want to drink alcohol, you have to be 21. Back in June of 1973, they lowered the drinking age from 21 to 18, which was about 3 months before I turned 21. The change in age caused some problems in schools, where some seniors could legally drink, but others could not, so a few years later, they raised it to 19. After a few more years, it was back to 21!
They aren’t 18 yet. When they started kindergarten in California, they had to be five on or before December 1st, 2nd or 3rd depending on the school district. ~They can then gamble at most of the Indian casinos in California when they turn 18. They can’t gamble in Reno until they are 21, so there is no use in driving over the mountain passes until then.~They will already have started classes when Luann and Bern turn 18, so it will have to be an early birthday bash in early August. Nonetheless, it should be a lot of fun.
How the Duck, you are correct. It is 21 throughout Nevada.~My advance apologies to those who are 18, 19, and 20 and have developed maturity, if the 18, 19, and 20 year olds don’t quit acting up like 12 year olds at the Indian Casinos in California, they will ALL start limiting the age to 21. All they need is more complaints from customers, so don’t give them a reason to complain.
I live in Nevada. And to “play” in a casino here a person needs to be 21 years of age. By the way, it is generally gaming here, not gambling. It keeps “players” thinking they are involved in entertainment, instead of “gambling” away their money. Tribal casinos are different. You can play at Tribal casinos at age 18. So, it really depends on where Luann planned to go “play”, either way at age 18, she could legally play somewhere.
Also, I seem to recall some years ago Brad and TJ running into casino trouble when one of them hit the jackpot on a slot machine but they were not of legal age to play.
Sorry… A little late to the party this morning. :)
Well, at least we know she is not yet 18. So that solves that issue… for now… I have feeling that Lu and Bern will work out the “better person” issues. But I know how Lu feels. Often I’m tired of always having to be the “better person” in my family! Once and a good while, I WANT TO BE EVIL!!! :-)
Not unless there’s a story coming up in which they get pulled over (not for anything too big) for something, and Lu has to deal with her parents and either sorting it out with them, or a possible bit of an ‘argument’ with them (that’s usually good for some “dramatic” fodder or at least some issues that many could identify with, and would be a relevant storyline for a character of that age)….
Sounds like this will be the last party with everyone— a good-bye to each other, a good-bye to Pitts, and a big HELLO to their new lives. (The t-shirts are already on order.)
" Was there a conclusion in the movie and/or the ’toons ? "^The problem for the series was the writing (which seemed to ignore the movie’s ending(/s) in favor of continuing the series with the seven main characters (like having Kip still searching for online dates, instead of his marrying Lafawnda as in the movie). But the other problem was that what made the movie special with the live action characters’ expressions didn’t translate very well into the animated series. Also the aforementioned writing was suspect. It got cancelled after only six episodes, too. It was an okay toon, but to me, the right people weren’t in place to make it work. – Of course, the movie was the same ol’, same ol, except that it had Kip marrying in the alternate ending, and Nap and Debbie was hinted at being a bit more than friends. Granny of course going back to her ATV riding in the dunes ( if she ever knitted a thing in her life, it’d be of some tough material, with a Harley patch on it, Lol!) and when Uncle Rico goes to Rex Kwon Do’s house to sell ‘Bust Must’ to Rex’s wife, Rex “deals with it”, as he’s not happy about the situation, to say the least. Though in the end, Rico’s girlfriend comes back to him… You can find the full synopsis here and the movie info here and the ending to the 1st episode to the toon, here …. – As far as I’m concerned, the movie is the real ending point, and the toon had promise, but it sputtered after the first episode….
Will they invite Delta to their dual birthday party? She would probably just berate them for celebrating with friends instead of taking the birthday cake and using it to feed the homeless.
And did I forget to mention, N.P. the toon was badly written ?… as in “Fox-ified”?…. – What also made the movie appealing was the fact that it wasn’t written like how they do with Fox shows It was kept “universal” for all audiences. Funny for adults, but “universal” funny.
Oh, trust me, I’ve seen it. Oddly enough, if you fly out of MIA (Miami Intl. Airport), they have machines that will pallet wrap your luggage for you, once it clears TSA. Quite handy.
But I wasn’t referring to pranks. I was referring more to “family subordination” and who expects who to be “subordinate” to the others. Face it…. I live among a family of “control freaks” all wanting things to go “their way…” and they always expect me to be the “better person” and bow to their will. I’m old enough (and independent enough) now to say “enough is enough.. I will live my life on my terms and no one else’s… Care to join me? Love to have you… If not… well…..”
Not sure… the “district attorney” may try me anyway… Too costly to provide a defense, even if I win…:)
I swear… “Peace of mind” is very expensive these days. Costs much money, much family but, at EOD, it’s worth it and a price I’m willing to pay. They were just hoping I wasn’t so willing to pay it.
I would never use “universal” and Barney in the same sentence. Well, except for that one… – To me, “universality” means adults will enjoy it, but it’s not inaccessible to kids, and you don’t have to worry about “lewd” jokes every five minutes. To me, “universal” also means adults don’t have to feel “dumbed down” or chained into “pre-school jokes”, but at the same time, you never have to go around feeling uncomfortable when “grandma” or somebody else watches….
Since I’m not a big fan of foreign films, I’ve always wondered about that—shouldn’t the script for the dubbing essentially be the same thing you see as the subtitles? Other than the fact the words can never completely sync with the mouth motions, I’m not sure what is lost…
Tramp stamps generally come to a point in the middle, seeming to point right to the middle of a woman’s butt…very trampy if you ask me; yet, kind of artistic
By the way, that routine appears on his album “AM & FM”. I have it on vinyl (Little David Records).
I have the CD in front of me (actually, “FM & AM”)… I used to be able to recite the first routine on that album “verbatim” – (i.e. the one “with two 00’s” :-)
“….I really should remember to put smileys at the end of my jokes…;-)”^No, I was adding to your joke with one of my own….I used a “hangdog” sort of response, but I went from your joke about “bomb” to mine about a “broken down vehicle”… movies that transfer to TV and shows designed to carry a star/character are also called vehicles…And also it failed just like a “broken down vehicle”…
Now, if Kim Kardashian, Miley Cyrus or Justin Beiber is doing it (the same things as James Dean), you are “fitting in to society (sort of)” and following trends, and only the ones not doing it are “outcasts”……^Are you serious?!?!^Those three would be wonderful reasons to stop doing it! <:-O^
^I was saying that things have reversed in this new time…. – Did you see what Christopher said? The point was that that’s how things have turned around, to the point that. If James Dean is doing it, it’s “cool” to rebel. If those three did it, it doesn’t look so cool, but they are today’s “stars” in the same position as J.D. was…..
