Nice Eddie, you are great!!!!!!!!

Gosh, I thought I was the only one who’s NEVER watched that show!
I knew I should have moved to Maine when I had a chance. I think I’d have fit right in.
But then, I’m allergic to cats.
Oh, well…

I hope it whithers & dies without Cowell.
Eddie obviously doesn’t watch FOX morning news either. You can’t get through an hour without them talking about that show.

Like Eddie, I have no TV and have never seen American Idol (yes, heard of it, but if you showed me a picture of Simon Cowell, I’d have no idea who it was unless you told me).
KEA almost 15 years ago
Who in their right mind watches Fox Morning News?… oh, wait, answered my own question.
pearlandpeach almost 15 years ago
being that oblivious, Eddy, would make it hard for you to understand if someone did try to explain the envy.
obliviousness is not a bad thing, Eddie, just very, very unusual.

I have never seen more than a clip of American Idol and don’t ever intend to. I would watch TV if Conan Obrien or America Ferrera were on.

I don’t watch AI, but I still know about the show and Simon.
Which is WHY I don’t watch it….;-)
GuntotingLiberal almost 15 years ago
Hurray for DVR, I can avoid everything except for Fringe and Lost (I know, I know, but JJ has tricked me into expecting to find a resolution). Although I do get an occasional urge to watch Chef Ramsey call someone a donkey now and again…

Who is simon cowell and what the heck is American idol? anyway? and should they not be helping those ingrates at port au prince?
WaitingMan almost 15 years ago
I watched American Idol once. NEVER AGAIN!!!!!!! Life is too short to listen to bad music.
vldazzle almost 15 years ago
Yes, I’ve never watched it either, but as I watch 2-3 hours of news in the morning on the same channel, I’ve heard WAAY too much about it. I’ll be glad if this is the last season. Meantime, that’s what pause and FF are for ;-)
vldazzle almost 15 years ago
Oh, yes, Ramsey is fun! I’ve watched all his shows since he started on the BBC channel, but he gets soo angry I expect him to die of high blood pressure;-(
vexatron1984 almost 15 years ago
Don’t watch it, but I’ve heard enough about it from co-workers that I might as well have. I have watched one whole show of it out of lurid curiosity, Simon was the only semi-entertaining part of AI. Plus he was usually right!

So, who is watching American Idol? Somebody has to for it still to be on.
QuietGuy almost 15 years ago
But shock jock Howard Stern may be replacing Simon next season… even more reasons not to watch…
celeconecca almost 15 years ago
I watched one season, and still regret it. The auditions are mostly cringeworthy, and I feel so sorry that for the truly bad singers, their efforts are recorded for all time.
cleokaya almost 15 years ago
There are many reasons that I do not have TV. This may be one of them. I will miss not being able to watch the olympics though.
Dillithamir almost 15 years ago
If it weren’t for my sister in-law, I’d have never even heard of the show…
So glad me and my wife have banned TV from our house… we don’t even need it to watch movies.
AddADadaAdDad almost 15 years ago
The only “Idol” I’ve ever watched was when it was the lead-in for “24” & would run three minutes over. I’d scream at Seacrest, “Get out, get out, go away!”
notinksanymore almost 15 years ago
I’ve never seen the show, but sometimes the morning radio program I listen to plays clips of things Simon says to contestants. My sister assures me his remarks are not as cruel in context. She says they usually deserve it. Still, on the radio he sounds like a mean jerk.
Justice22 almost 15 years ago
American Idol is about Music? I always thought it was a show about President Bush. Maybe I should watch it once.
cmugnier almost 15 years ago
The show has had one redeeming virtue …
“Pants on the ground, pants on the ground …”
I check the TV Guide to know when not to telephone my girlfriend. Other than that, I’m ignorant of the mini-dramas.
bmonk almost 15 years ago
Well, I do know something about “American Idol” and Simon Cowell–mostly from involuntary force-feeding by the TV Guide channel–and I ask, “Who really cares? I certainly don’t.”
Yes, I’d put it below “As the Stomach Turns”, “One Life to Waste” and “General Nausea” and all that ilk.

Aside from watching a YouTube clip once (when Susan Boyle was all the rage) I’ve never seen it either, but from what I’ve heard I’m not missing much.
Iwa Iniki almost 15 years ago
I never watched American Idol until someone told me to watch a dancing dog or something. I don’t like reality shows. My life has enough painful realism.
freeholder1 almost 15 years ago
When I was younger, boys denied reading the Playboy kept under their beds too. :) It’s now posh to deny ever seeing the most popular show in America. I watch the last couple episodes every year since I don’t want to be accused of encouraging the also-rans. Daughtry convinced me there was talent there, even if it didn’t always win. Speaking of Posh, my wife dragged me in to see her judge a contest and I wonder why she hasn’t died of malnourishment. I could never go to bed with a skeleton and not feel like a necrophiliac. Poor little Rich kid locked in diet hell.

@ the GhostPony,
Was that clip from American Idol? I also watched the clip of Susan Boyle. I couldn’t tell you who any of the judges are.
Even when I did watch TV, that was not the kind of show I would ever watch… and it has been many years since I did watch TV.
I do have a television set now, but use it only to watch videos and DVDs.

Burgundy2 - Thank you and thank you again : )
I have watched one episode of American Idol, I couldn’t find the remote. It was so fascinatingly horrorifying I just got sucked in. I tend to avoid watching anything based on reality, because most of it is so depressing (especially the news).
Godfreydaniel - Please, please tell me your kidding and there is not really an “American Karaoke”!!!!
aldridgeg almost 15 years ago
Never seen it either. What little I know of Simon leads me to believe that he is rather rude and needs the benefit of a small conversation in the parking lot.

I’m with Captain Eddie. Everytime I see a promo for that show I hit the mute or fast forward
David_J Premium Member almost 15 years ago
@ Maizing,
Actually, I couldn’t say one way or the other, it may have been a UK version of the show. I do know that the Simon? guy was there, and I only recognized him from reading another article about him at once.

I’ve never seen it either…I don’t even own a T.V.

Talent shows have been around since before the beginning. American Idol is not a reality show. I’ve never seen one of them. I’ve only seen one American Idol. I was substituting in a middle school choir class. I saw the same episode six times that day. (I know, it sounds gruesome, doesn’t it?) The assignment was to rate the performers by six different standards, such as breath control, use of the diaphragm, ease of movement and stage presence, vocal range, etc. Fortunately, it was near the finals, and the performances ranged from OK to great. (A local boy , Matt from Kalamazoo, was in it) That being said, the first contest winner, Kelly Clarkson, had a song out last year called My Life Would Suck Without You. It’s actually a lot of fun, and has the best title of a love song in a long time. Although she didn’t write the song, (It is one of the better written pop songs out there. The lyrics are great.) Not only is it produced well, her performance on the recording is exceptional. She really sells it. It’s the perfect song for blasting out of a convertible in the summertime. Sometimes the cream rises to the top. But I’ve got better things to do than watch TV. I don’t even watch movies much. I’d rather read a book. Many movies are from books and they are almost always a disappointment after you’ve read the book.

Well, It’s quite obvious. Captain Eddy lives most of the day in his own little reality, completely cut off from ours. No wonder he has trouble keeping track of things that are going on in our reality.

Love the expression on Flo in Panel 3. I agree with her. Thanks again Wiley, great art and storyline.

Cap’n Eddy, that is the kind of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” that I can agree with! Just forget they evah mentioned it!
cutiepie29 almost 15 years ago
I have only watched American Idol once, and that was the episode that John, my husband’s cousin, was on. John majored in musical theater and did great, but was told something to the effect that he basically was made to be singing show tunes and that is all. According to John, Simon isn’t actually like that in reality, but actually just follows a script the network provides. He actually gives good, sensible advice to the performers and is a pretty nice guy.

If the cat could speak… then Eddie probably would know why…
Wildcard24365 almost 15 years ago
You and me both, Eddie.
Wildcard24365 almost 15 years ago
@aldridgeg: Rude, maybe, but if anything he’s the one who’s doing the contestants a favor by laying it on the line without mincing words. If they can’t take his criticisms… well, they just ain’t got the thick skin you need in show business, do they?
Burijas over 14 years ago
I think the cat is probably thinking Eddie is very amusing :-)
