Don’t do anything to attract the police — it hurts the profit margin.

Aaah, criminality is what we need to have a law-abiding society.

Ha! You all thought he meant something illegal. I read it to mean that they are showing off a lot of Harley paraphenalia.

Uh… D.R. ….the expression “moving a lot of product” means “selling a lot of merchandise.”

Bikers buy branded paraphernalia to wear… but most have no stake in Harley Davidson or its licensees…. there’s no percentage in being law-abiding just to show off your gear.Nope…. but when you’re on your way to make a sale, with a jail term in your pocket, or your saddlebags reeking of ….um… herbs…you really don’t want to get pulled over for an illegal left turn.

Skid reminds me of the Reverend I knew, one of a number of bikers I’ve ridden with. I’m unusual that I’m a ‘normal’ and I don’t have any tats.

“Cyclist” is used to describe those who pedal their ride. The correct term for Skid and his ilk is “biker”.

(sigh) one of the few stereotypes even a supposedly liberal cartoonist can trade in…

However, Garry displays his ignorance here: time and time again, when “biker” gangs are caught moving “product” (drugs, guns, prostitutes, etc.), they’re doing it in rented vans. Even an Electra-Glide Ultra Limited just doesn’t have the cargo space needed to sustain a proper illicit distribution business…

There has been a lot of discussion in the papers here about whether Bicyclist should be required to have an operator’s license because they are SOOO bad at observing the traffic laws.

Sadly, many bicyclists think they should still ride facing traffic, like when they were pedestrians.

Bill maher noted recently that undocumented workers are perfect in traffic. This would make sense.

I had not heard of people riding bicycles as outlaws. Motorcyclists are usually referred to as bikers in conversation. There have been biker outlaws for years.

We have a trail close to where I live where people can ride bikes. I would never ride a bike in traffic, far too risky. I think motorcycles are too dangerous for my taste too. No thanks.

Wow, you don’t like when people stereotype your group, but then immediately turn around and do the exact same thing to another group.

@KipYep, they want to be considered either motorists and pedestrians with the advantages of both and the responsibilities of neither. If you call them out on it, they’ll rip into you with lame excuses as to why they shouldn’t have to follow the traffic laws when they’re on the streets. I’m more likely to see them going down the wrong side of the street wearing ear buds than to see one signaling a turn.

Deep south, north Florida, about 1967. Friend and I were riding our bicycles down US 1. No traffic, none at all, except for the state trooper who “pulled us over” for riding in the wrong direction. Gave us a warning. In hindsight, I think we should have tried to outrun him, maybe been on “Cops” that week.

A few years ago we were driving on a two-lane highway. A truck was just coming alongside us when a biker flew right between us, barely missing my rear bumper and the truck’s front bumper. We both stayed on the road. Idiot.

These days, a good 90 percent of the guys who ride Harleys and dress like Skid haul their bikes to rallies on trailers—behind their Priuses—and have no sense of “brotherhood” whatsoever. They’re just playing dress-up, and the bike is nothing more than an expensive element of costume.

Don’t forget your “Sons of Anarchy” licensed gear… (hmm… people pretending to be members of a fictional gang… getting pretty “meta” here, aren’t we?)

Here in NY the biker gangs are mostly long-gone, and now running quasi-legitimate businesses, (“contracting”). Now the drug trade is fueled by the taxi businesses and has been for the last 20 years or so. I was shocked to learn how many people take a cab to get their fix, sometimes 2-3 times a night! I got real sick of taking junkies to get meth or heroin real quick. (BTW junkies are LOUSY tippers), and the owners of the businesses take in about $2 million a year, less than a third from legitimate rides and medicaid transport.

Speaking of Bicyclists The national news media here seemed more concerned that the Royals were at the stage 1 finish of le Tour, than as to who won it or the nasty accident right at the end.

I suspect the term “limosine liberal” makes sense in the idea of those wanting to help the less fortunate but not to the extent of parting with their own wealth, a contrast of sorts, hypocrisy perhaps.Wheresa “limousine conservative”doesn’t work because it has no internal inconsistency, no hypocrisy..The usual insult is more likely “caring conservative” because conservatives are painted as wholly greedy, ignorant, evil.

“Product” in this context only means dope. Any kind. And a “bike” is just fine for end-user and small dealer deliveries.

Among other things, being on a bike gives you a real advantage if you have to split suddenly – if you are a good rider and have good equipment. There is just no way a cop in a car can catch a bike in traffic.
