Cul de Sac by Richard Thompson for March 13, 2010
Transcript:
Alice: Mom! Read me this book at bedtime! Petey says there's an Alice in it! Mom: "Alice in Wonderland!" Alice: He says it's freaky! Alice falls into an extinct volcano where she's menaced by pig babies, invisible cats and a doorman in a teapot! At the end, after a helicopter chase, they make her the queen and everybody has pie! Dad: That's in "Alice in Wonderland"? Alice: Boy, oh boy! Mom: Last week she added a rabies subplot to "Winnie the Pooh."

Agreed, leaksqueeky712. Will Alice grow up to write children’s books?
leakysqueaky712 over 14 years ago
Grog…………….If she does, she will give Steven King a run for his money.

Yer right, Leaky! You win a Dutch master’s cigar!
leakysqueaky712 over 14 years ago
Marg, are you gonna send Edie Adams with the cigar??
Why dont you Pick me up and smoke me sometimes
Or maybe that was her ad for Muriel cigars. hmmm
MisterFweem over 14 years ago
In my opinion, a lot of books would be better if everybody got pie at the end.

Great. I WAS gonna go see Alice in Wonderland this weekend, but there’s no way it’s going to be better than Alice’s version so why bother.

Can you all imagine Alice, Ruthie & Calvin on the same field trip? Toss in Zack, the criminal for good measure! Whoa!

If you take out the bit about the helicopter chase, she’s not too far off. (Of course, Alice doesn’t really become a queen until “Through the Looking Glass”.)
I don’t remember rabies in “Winnie the Pooh”, but there WAS that time Piglet had trichinosis (just the 24-hour kind)…

Sooo good to have plenty of smiles in the morning ;- )

fritz, was Piglet cured?
fritzoid Premium Member over 14 years ago
MisngNOLA, yeah, but Pooh Bear was miffed about using all that honey…

Alice is gonna be disappointed when she learns how to read…..and dangerous when she learns how to write.

Great strip today.
celeconecca over 14 years ago
actually - Alice’s version would probably appeal to Carroll today.

hahah…that is “have a good imagination”, i miss that–

Yeah, I agree with fritzoid, not too far off!

Re cigars: The name of the first was Dutch Masters (not Dutch master’s). The box had a group picture of prosperous Dutch burghers. The line about picking me up was from the Muriel commercial.

Sounds like Alice is ready for “Sense and Sensibility and Zombies”.
fritzoid Premium Member over 14 years ago
DirtyDragon, you’re conflating “Pride & Prejudice & Zombies” and “Sense & Sensibility & Sea Monsters.” The first is highly enjoyable, but I’ve heard that the second is a far inferior work.

Alice’s version is closer to the original than Tim Burton’s …

Be careful Munodi, they’ll start going after you like they do Joe.

Considering the only mammal in “Winnie the Pooh” was Christopher Robin (everyone else being stuffed animals, and even they knew it), I assume he’s the one who got rabies? Given her recent fascination with the subject, I’m surprised she didn’t work a WereTigger into the story…
DonVanni over 14 years ago
It was probably Kanga and Roo who had the rabies, not Piglet.
fritzoid Premium Member over 14 years ago
Destiny23, I think Rabbit was supposed to be a real rabbit, and Owl was a real owl. (I could be wrong.) Birds can’t get rabies, but that still leaves Rabbit. (Rabies/Rabbit? Could this be a simple mishearing on Alice’s part?) Of course, if it WAS Rabbit then myxomatosis would be more likely.
kimberphi over 14 years ago
MisngNOLA “was Piglet cured”… ROFL! good one.
kjs9 over 14 years ago
I think she’s citing the movie version, not the book. And I’m pretty sure I saw an live-action Pooh Corner episode called “Christopher Robin gets Tularemia”.
I might have the title wrong…
fritzoid Premium Member over 14 years ago
Oh yeah, I think I remember that one. It was subtitled “Winnie the Pooh and the Very Special Episode”, right? Pity they didn’t get an Emmy nomination; you could tell that’s what they were shooting for.

BPM, Alice is not a terribly reliable reporter of what other people say to her. She once found a piece of bamboo; Miss Bliss told her that bamboo can be made into fishing poles, and that pandas love to eat it. Alice came away convinced that pandas love to go fishing.

”myxomatosis: A highly infectious, usually fatal disease of rabbits.”
After which he would be a stuffed animal!
”Christopher Robin and his Taxidermied Friends”
