Aaron Myhre, what you wrote about hemp is somewhat true. Hemp and corn lawn grass are relatives, and they need the same attention to grow. If hemp is not cultivated to be smoked, it can grow wild, planted in harvestable rows if you insist, and harvested much like lawnmower clippings. If suitably treated, hemp paper can last for thousands of years, just like tree-paper. The hippies are right on this one.

PETA would probably recommend you make your coat out of the skin of hunters.

A wool sweater?!

How many acrylics had to die to make that sweater?

I have llamas, and their wool is great to work with. Not quite as soft and fine as alpaca, but still very usable. No oils, either, like sheep’s wool. They have to be sheared at least once a year in warmer climates, so why not put the wool to use!

I wonder how Guard Duck will feel about this…

At least the wool/ angora/ alpaca hair doesn’t mean killing the animal. .Though I did know a girl in college who saved her cat’s hair and had a friend of hers spin it then knited a sweater with the cat hair yarn. She said it was the ichest thing she’d ever worn.

I forget what strip it was, but this one reminds me of a comic strip where the shopper had to choose between paper and plastic, and the cashier discouraged both options. The shopper ended up having to carry her items to the car, saying, “I hate being politically correct.”
