Gene: What would you name a French bistro? Uh...
Gene: That's just great! I can't even think of any French words!
Gene: I hope we're not making a big mistake!
Mary Lou: A big mistake isn't the end of the world!
I would call an unplanned pregnancy a big suprise, not a mistake. My daughters unplanned pregnancy ended up being the best thing that could have ever happened to her and our family. Would not change it for the world.
messing with your savings can be devastating though. oops there goes Meg’ college fund, oops there goes our IRA, oops there goes our home in foreclosure. not the end of the world but maybe no college for your kid and you can’t retire and you end up living with your parents. Mary Lou would have a different view if Gus had kicked her out when she got knocked up.
So many cowards. So many nasties. I suspect those are the people who would never risk “the big mistake” and who would therefore never live, who die wondering.
A big mistake is robbing a bank, dealing drugs, racketeering, etc to support a family. Many people have bet big and lost. The trick is to use somebody else’s money and skim from the top if you win.
Like they say about the lottery, “If you don’t play, you cannot win.” ML has a solid vision of what to do and how to do it. That is at least 75% of making their risk a huge success. At worst, it is a medium size mistake that they can easily recover from. That is her point.
Rent with an option to buy the building; buy the furnishings and kitchen equipment, used from The Dock (Gus will give them a good deal); hire good people from a labor pool that they already know; go to Paris for a month or 2 to see how a bistro is run; contact small, high quality wineries while in France, etc. Should work, if the patron base is there and I figure ML knows that.
StoicLion: Vasectomy and tubal legation are not neutering (which involves the endocrine system), but sterilization. Lots of those concerned about population exceeding carrying capacity have this done after reaching their two-kid quota.
YepSometimes what looks like a big mistake you now know not to go further on.Information gained is valuable unto itself..Mary Lou is growing on me.Good for Gene.
Those who commit suicide are just leaving the game too early.I remember one man who went bankrupt three different times. He just got back up and stayed in the game.Back to being a millionaire last I noticed.
StoicLion: What gives you the right to deny them the right to advocate? You sure are advocating your position, not on its merits, but on the denial of the rights of others.

It could be the beginning of the wrong path. The sad part is you will not know if it was wrong until you reached the destination.
