Luann: "You guys can help me study. Hold up this art history book"
Luann: "Ok, "The Thinker" by Rodin. Next page"
Luann: ""The Scream" by Munch. Next"
Luann: ""The Cat in the Hat" by Seuss"
Child 1: "Next!"
I’m disappointed that Luann has the kids helping her study. She’s almost an adult; she needs to learn to manage her time better. At work, she needs to do what she’s being paid to do, which isn’t studying….
Art History is quite fascinating, but quite difficult to remember all of the arts and their artists! Seems Luann has had two history classes this semester/quarter. I wonder if she is majoring in history or just using the classes as “fillers.” ;)
The kid that put the Cat-In-The-Hat book on top of Luann’s book looks suspiciously like TJ…maybe he has a younger brother? If so, lord help us…I mean two TJs in Pitts? Oh, the horror! ;)
I love Math, History and reading…………. and even by the pattern of the scream and the thinker,, in last panel Luann is correct, Dr. Seuss made his own illustrations, before he started writing children books, he was already a famous illustrator in par to Disney and Hanna Barbara but he was more into comics and strips earlier in his career. than got into writing books for children, if I ran a zoo, if i ran a circus and Horton hears a who came long before cat in the hat
Looks more like a Humanities course than Art History. Luann has just skipped a couple of thousand years into the Expressionist Era. Sorry, I keep forgetting…this is just a comic strip. Realism is not a requirement.and probably should be avoided, or Knute would have to get a nose job.
Well, I am almost done with the pre-winter yardwork! Except I pushed myself too hard and now am paying for it physically! Time to go rest my back! Dogs have it easy, walking on all four legs! IS Katie doesn’t look like her long walk today even fazed her body! (Envy, envy, envy!). ’Nite all! ;)-—————————————————————-" _ Ueberliejerungsgeschichte_ is a longer and nobler name than fudge."(A. E. Housman, 1859-1936)
Pretty blah choices for a college level art history course,No Holbein,Kahlo, or Waterhouse?A Dali or De Chirico would be more likely to end up in an advanced text that mentioned the surrealists or Dadaists. And Theodor Geisel did so much more than just The Cat in the Hat.
At Pitt CC “Art History” consists of knowing the names of famous painting and sculptures, rather than knowing anything about the history of art. I suppose the “History of War” that we saw yesterday consists of knowing the wars’ names, rather than knowing what they were about, what happened in them, and what their consequences were. That explains why the textbook was so thin. I hope Frank and Nancy feel that they’re getting their money’s worth in financing Luann’s “college education”, because I surely wouldn’t.
So Luann didn’t take time to study on her own, and instead of taking time to do her job as caretaker of the kids she’s making them help her study? Hmm, not cute, not funny, wonder what the comments would be if Tiffany was doing this.
This is a very reasonable position to take, so maybe I am being unreasonable in feeling that Luann shouldn’t have involved the kids in her studying.-That said, who are you and what have you done with ReallyBad2?
Back to last week: Please note that the arc ended the same as the prior Rosa/Gunther arc— on the way to adventure with Rosa caught up in unfounded hope and Gunther caught up in dread.*Last time, Rosa was disappointed & Gunther was glad when the situation turned corporate. What will be the end of this current arc in the medical supply van?
Greg…. even though I am still hugely curious about Gunther & Rosa…. and hugely curious about Bernice, Dez & Crew…. and hugely curious about Luann’s time at her Community College…. I have to say that so far this week has been wonderfully fun as well! The interaction you portray between Luann and the kids is great, and the drawing of the kids has been stellar IMHO. Thank you.
Heard a discussion on the news concerning the value of 4 years of college. Idea was that basics could be learned at a two year community college and then a company like IBM who has its own training program would teach the worker their own system. Heard the same thing from an accountant the other day. My point being is that the cost per credit hour (and I no longer know what that is) would be a waste of money for subjects like art history or philosophy. My banker has a degree from a very good university in English Literature…..and now she’s a banker. Am I wrong?
Really doesn’t seem to be too much more to add, today. Surprising that there’s nothing on Rodin’s “Thinker” or the infamous “Scream”… And I guess there wouldn’t be too much that we could “wring out” in terms of Luann and her studying (that hasn’t already been said, that is)…. I thought maybe one other possible “angle” would have been someone saying how much they enjoyed “Hop On Pop” or “Are You My Mother?” or something….
LOL, I thought Knute was a boob.-Not so much really, definitely an eccentric whose skills lay in other areas./////////Knute has skill as a cartoonist.Remember?
Panel 4 is photobombed by the kid in the green shirt. True enough, though, he may get Luann back on track, tending to the kids rather than trying to use them for her own study-time.
Forgot to add: There sure are a lot of lawyers “masquerading” as executives in some cushy/prestigious/famous positions and institutions….. such as the NBA,NFL and MLB just for starters…. (and it’s not always because of their legal skills that they end up there, either…)
Lets be clear multitasking is the art of doing multiple tasks at the same time, usually badly. What luann is doing is synergizing. Which is doing one task and meeting multiple goals. She’s studying as she studies the kids are entertained, educated and watched after. A multitasker would study and claim to be watching the kids at the same time.
Appreciate the interesting feedback on the value of a 4 year college education. I was strictly a “numbers” man until I went to England and toured some place called Runnymede where the Magna Carta was signed. I had to ask someone “What’s the Magna Carta?” I came back home, enrolled in a European history course and ended up taking 3 semesters plus 2 more semesters of Art History. Didn’t do anything for my job, but I’m glad that I did it.
Evans is definitely portraying his cast of characters at an age younger than they were when he started the strip.Just without the disproportionate bodies.

Just like Tiff— using the kids for her own advantage! But, hey— in both instances the kids are having fun while learning some cool big-kid stuff!

You certainly have the right screen name. My hope is that there are no children in your life.
