It would seem that instead of taking the local bus, Tiffany wants to ride the express to the “Silver Hills”, with no stops on the way…

What we can see of one of Luann’s textbooks is titled “onometry”. Is she studying trigonometry at Pitt CC? If ti’s anything like the “Art History” class, she will be learning to identify the names of the 3 types of triangles.

Actually, the partial book title is “ometry”. Maybe she’s studying Optometry.

“Careen” Little Annoying Blonde Girl MEANS: “Moving SWIFTLY and in an UNCONTROLLED Way in a Specified Direction(s).”

LOOK, I’ll Use it in a Sentence: (A-Hem) "It was a Dark and Stormy Night. Mom was Driving while talking on her Galaxy s5 when She suddenly Had to SERVE to keep from Hitting a Deer and CAREENED “Accidental-Like” INTO Her Ex-Husband’s BMW."

    Oh WAIT. You Said “Career”.

Quite a set of books for a community college freshman: [History of] War, [Ge]ometry (didn’t Luann pass that in high school?), [A]rt History, and Political Science! Most if not all of the little kids seem to mirror one of the bigger ones. The little brunette with glasses=Bernice, the little blonde=Tiffany, the guy in panel 2 is surely=a little Brad. The only one that seems less clear is the boy in the Where’s Waldo? shirt in the double-wide panel 1; Quill?

I think that Tiffany is actually quite smart. Even though she is perhaps going to Moony right now just because her father is “making her” do so, I think that she will undoubtably find a niche and find something she DOES become passionate about, whether it is Drama or something else.

While the usual cast of posters is busy here digging their fangs and claws in, with their usual comments about all the terrible things Luann is guilty of, and how we haven’t seen frame after frame of her studying (which would only result in more complaints about how boring the ‘toon is), or we haven’t heard dissertations on the 4000 hobbies she has, there’s been no comment at all on what the heroine of these posters is doing today.-Tiffany is pouting. So, let me get this straight. It’s perfectly ok for a kid whose father is presumably paying her way through college to pout about it (while other kids would give their eye teeth to have parental financial help with education) and complain that it’s a waste of time for her to be there when she should be rushing to Hollywood for all the starring roles waiting for her.-But it’s not ok for Luann to study political science or geometry at a community college? Why? Because Luann didn’t tell the kids her career goal or list her 4000 hobbies? Because geometry won’t help with a career? (Tell that to surveyors.)-No matter what shows up in these frames, one thing will always be the case: haters will hate. Shake it off, Luann. Shake it off….

Let’s take this a step further for those after Tiffany: We have Quill who magically comes back to the US because he wants to study acting. Meanwhile Australia has a very active theatre/film community with more opportunities than here in the US. Then we see him tell Gunther that he came back for Luann. So how does this make him better than Tiffany?

Apparently, you, like most extremists, know of no middle ground in life. -It is entirely possible to be indifferent to the story of a particular character in a book, movie or cartoon, without either hating or liking the character.

Luann has stated explicitly that she has no clear career objectives yet, or if she does, they are constantly changing. Tiffany does have a life-long career objective, and she has actually worked hard at pursuing it. She has other talents too, though – we have seen that she is an excellent manager, having the responsibility for organizing the homecoming dance and the senior prom. She gets things done. If her father is a successful businessman, he surely recognizes that talent in his daughter, and it would be entirely reasonable for him to insist on her going to Moony to develop those skills along with continuing to study theater, so that after graduation she can go into business (perhaps with him?) if her acting ambitions do not lead to success in the entertainment field.

first, I am one of the few people who tries to stay impartial about Tiff and Lue, second, their “real job” is as characters of comics, not “real life people”, but we can generalize about them or project about our life and views into them if some desire………. I always seem to think that in general(except for in times of need of a gag, where Tiff becomes Chrissy of 3s company or Blair of facts of Life…or Luann becomes Drama queen, or becomes “woe me, I am so imperfect”) Tiff is the rich girl who is lazy in her studies, but we know that if she applies herself, can show she can be very smart, she is not as bad as London Tipton of suite life, and that Luann is the adaptable person, who is passionate about dealing with kids, likes acting for sake of acting, not for sake of being the tool to get stardom, and who sees herself as miss unpopular and even thought she is still undecided, we know she would love to be either/both teacher of elementary school or be an actress(not for sake of stardom, but she genuinely loves the acting; would be as happy in Hollywood or Broadway as in a local town theater)

BTW, some students in order to “fill requirements” do not go according to their assessment(only used to determine what classes the student is NOT READY FOR) and elect to take easy classes, if anything, I am glad that Luann chose to take relatively hard classes, not “basic history” or basic math for her first semester

Every prospective actor should have a backup plan (there’s too much luck involved) – and hearing how many actors get ripped off by their “business” people, I’d say a good choice would be an MBA.

    > I remember a college course in Integration in the Complex Plane >The professor I had for that course told us that one year when he taught it there was a student from Poland in the class, and he took great offense when the professor evaluated a contour integral by computing the residue for a function that had a “simple pole”.

http://www.cde.ca.gov/ci/gs/hs/hsgrtable.asp note that to simply graduate, they only need beginning algebra, and the max required to go to a university is intermediate algebra in the school I graduated it was pretty much that………… in order to fulfill requirements, my choices included California history(Civics), Typing(career technical), biology, plus my high school required that either I proved my efficiency in swimming in a test, or take a semester of swim class

Being a surveyor is usually a Mexican, because that’s where those jobs are, & he didn’t go to college. Learned it on the job, like BO. The owner never gets out in the field. Plus, being one, you are extremely poorly paid for what you do— $30-40K for accuracy over all, in all kinds of weather. No pension. Again, no pension! Be wrong, & see how long you last!. Plus, most of the instruments are made in Japan. Your life can be in danger, many times, plus bad weather. No retirement, usually.Be a math teacher, get a pension, plus parking. As an ex-surveyor, being one, is the most thankless job I know! Can’t give line in foggy weather, with the gun fogged up, so all the crews don’t work, & the job goes to hell!Blame the surveyor!!!Nuff said.

PS: If you want movies, go where they are.Son wanted movies. Moved across the country. Left, to take a 29 cent job there. Was in the right place, when cheaters were caught-moved up, because he knew that job. Been there 20 years, directing movies. Some college, but very big DESIRE!Be prepared.Learn how to read, by reading comic books, make money by going where money is-oil, construction, Wall Street, fishing, get college by moving to a college-free country, learn math by doing, etc.How do you get to Carnegie Hall? Practice, practice! An, “in you belly desire.”Unless, it’s inherited.
