In this case, there is no Winkin or Blinkin for Gunther’s head…. just some Nod…. – A “win-win”. She let off some steam, he recognized that her “ego” was hungry, felt some compassion, fed her ego “in a teacup”. Then " Kitty “lapped it up”, and no arguments or fights….

Tiffany has stated how attractive she is in the past, and I think hinted how affluent her background is. That just got her flak for egotism and bragging.Gunther is supposedly smart, well-liked, has a mother who supports him and encourages him pursue his dreams, let’s him then return to living at home, he had a hot girlfriend and traveled to a different country and apparently was paid for it, has a scholarship to university that waited for him to return last minute. Yet he has complained to every. single. person. he’s had a conversation with. His mother is dating! He has to make decisions!I think those two really do have stuff in common. They are fortunate individuals who like to complain. A. Lot.

@ShagsCA: You may want to read up on the difference between an acrostic and an anagram. They’re not the same thing. An anagram of ShagsCA would be Gascash, for example.

That said, it looks to me as if Tiffany is, in fact, concentrating on her studies. She’s allowed to resent it, but if she is to be believed, she’s doing it.

Being in Peru really DID change Gunther. Or was it being away from Mommy and Pitts? Anyway, aside from some residual hemming & hawing, he really seems more assertive and manly than in the past. Maybe Greg will let him give her some roses tomorrow… nah, too early for that! But, just maybe Tiff may finally get a (temporary) boyfriend.

Tiffany, by her own account, has been working her butt off…

“By her own account…” That could mean anything! And just what as she accomplished with all that work? She’s not there to be a social queen… not priority one, at least. She’s there to learn skills that will help her earn a living, later in life. She needs to understand that. She needs to “get real,” fast. But we know that won’t happen.

while he is showing up a semester late…

That’s now what he’s doing, and you know it. You know he took advantage of that bit of Deus ex Machina magic called “deferred admission.” And, he looks a whole lot more relaxed on campus than he has in some time. And, I think he knows Tiff well enough for his BS meter (and his snark/sarcasm) responder to react accordingly. I have no problem with it.

It’s not like Gunther skipped all his classes in the fall semester and got straight F’s. He just didn’t enroll until the spring semester, which is a legitimate choice. And I suspect that Gunther will be able to handle his classes academically.

Gunther just showed up back in Pitt, with no advance warning, on New Year’s Eve. Since his returning to the USA was a quickly made decision, he could not have applied for re-admission to Moony U. before he returned. Instead, all he does is just start going to school there as soon as Christmas break is over. I’m beginning to suspect that Moony U. is not exactly the Yale of southern California. There seems to be less difference between Moony and Pitt CC than we had been led to believe.

Tiffany is working hard to do schoolwork that she doesn’t like, at the expense of having fun, because she’s a horrible person who deserves our scorn and whom we should mock daily. Just wanted to make sure I understand the conventions of this strip right.

It’s actually pretty important to meet people in college…not only will they likely be lifelong friends, it’s a great place to start building contacts in your chosen field. Not to mention the amount of group studying. Going it alone in college (and later the job market) is very difficult.

I agree, it is important. But it’s not the #1 priority or the primary reason to be there. And I’m sure there are a number of cheaper, less intensive alternatives than Moony if that’s the real objective

So it’s okay for Gunther to not want to be at school, but when Tiffany doesn’t want to, OH BOY, she needs to “get real, fast”.

Where in that strip does Gunther give any indication that he doesn’t want to be there? He is simply “uncertain” about some things. There is something missing in his life. That doesn’t mean that college isn’t something he wants in his life. Just that something else needs to be there, additionally, not necessarily as a replacement.

We have to fill in the plot hole on that one. Normally you have to apply for that.

And, perhaps, that’s what happened, before Gunther and Rosa left for Peru. With Deus ex Machina, anything is possible.

They apparently are both in the same biology lab together. Some may not believe it, but many a romance has happened as freshmen gaze into each other’s eyes across the lab bench as they look at all manner of creatures. I see it regularly.+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++Gunther says he has a “biology lab”…. I would presume (and hope) that he also has enrolled in the lecture. At every university of which I am aware, there is no such stand alone laboratory course for freshmen. He presumably misspoke and meant biology class (which typically has both a lecture AND a lab at that level).

so Evans didn’t explain to everyone’s satisfaction how Gunther got into Moony after missing the first semester>It’s not that he didn’t explain it “to everyone’s satisfaction”; it’s that he didn’t explain it at all. Not a word. Gunther narrates his story at the breakfast table about how he returned from Peru, and the next day we see him and Quill headed off to classes at Moony. That was it. Nothing at all about when or how he enrolled. He just shows up at class, and that’s that.-> why is this detail so important it HAS to be spelled out?>In one sense, absolutely nothing about Luann is at all “important”, since of course it’s just a comic strip. However, if a professional cartoonist wants to produce quality work, he owes it to his audience to do it right. That means providing some plausible explanation for the puzzling things that happen in his plots, instead of forcing the readers to invent their own convoluted backstories to make sense of what happened, or simply ignoring all hard-to-explain developments by dismissing them.

Gunther had already applied and had been accepted at MU before graduating from high school,(06/26/2014)

but Rosa sprung her Peru trip on him right at graduation.(06/19/2014)

The colleges I went to (one a community college, another a major private university) allowed incoming freshmen to start school a semester late without any repercussions. As long as you entered school within a year acceptance, it was all good.

Perhaps MU has the same policy.

But I’m confused on what people want to see from Tiffany. She’s clearly doing her school work and not out partying. She has no social life to speak of. Her social life consisted of school activities and tiles…not so much having actual friends, now she has neither.

We don’t know that. We don’t know anything about her progress, either academically or socially, with the exception of that party she tried to steal from Bernice. What I want to see from Tiffany really doesn’t matter. I’d I’m not terribly invested in her character, at this point. If she starts showing some greater interest in Gunther (for whatever reason), then I’ll have some objectives/expectations for her.

He has class and can only think about Peru. He talks about wanting to find a purpose, clearly he is not talking about school.

Still doesn’t mean he doesn’t want to be there. It just means he has other things on his mind. Now, last week, it might have been Peru on the “front burner,” but this week I’m not sure.
