Oh, Gunther! Your Freudian Slip is showing…. – Gunther’s probably just “taken aback”, because of the “depths” of that book they had to refer to….. – It could also possibly (maybe) be that what happened is he left the door to his heart open, and Tiffany just wandered in, when she took a wrong left turn at his Cerebellum, on her way to getting the paper done…

We know it was still daylight when Tiff got out of the shower (blue sky in the window behind the couch). It could have been as late as about 7PM. Even if you allow an hour for Gunther to get home, he would have been there at least until 11. Four hours seems like a long time to write up field notes for what appears to have been a very short time in the field.

Greg has dealt with touchy subjects in the past (such as Luann and her “.”) We know that kids in college have sex sometimes. Even if they didn’t go all the way, this might be an opportunity to touch ever so lightly upon the subject.

Or, to keep things in the comic-strip world, the same way that Snuffy Smith took over the “Barney Google” strip. I think I shall henceforth envision Gunther as a jug-toting, mule-riding, barely literate hillbilly. It would make him far more interesting than the character of which Greg Evans is apparently so fond.

It is clear that Gunther “doth protest too much.” It is also clear that it did not take till midnight to complete the assignment and that Gunther was with Tiffany the whole time— or he would have said so. The last thing we saw yesterday is that Tiffany began to defuse their mutual embarrassment by leaving the room for more coffee. She may or my not have satisfied the squeamish among us by dressing also. When she returned they would eventually have gotten around to doing the assignment, and probably would have talked a long time, with a lot of sexual tension in the air. If that was not resolved by acting on it, that would account for Gunther’s explosion when he spoke with Quill. If they did proceed to act on it, Gunther may have regretted it afterwards for one reason or another, also accounting for the verbal explosion later. Let’s hope our curiosity is satisfied, but I would not bet on that.

RB2, I wanted to simply set the record straight…. I never said a random bus driver was going to be a “father figure” for Gunther. I said that Luis (a van driver associated with Rosa’s Uncle’s Clinic) was an appropriate “father-figure” because he was kind and knowledgable, and was not being portrayed in the stereotypical “dopey-dad” or “wicked loser” formats most male, father-figure types are portrayed as. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++While I can understand that you disagree with my assessment of Luis, I must say that I very strongly disagree with you that bland Quill is any sort of “father-figure”. He is the same age as Gunther, he isn’t really any more knowledgeable in most regards to Gunther, and he is…. bland as well. He is (to me) simply a FRIEND for Gunther, and sometimes friends do talk about things.

What if Tiffany spent the evening crying on Gunther’s shoulder like she never dared with anybody else? What if she’s used sexiness for manipulation so much that it makes her scared and ashamed to kiss a guy she actually cares about? What if she told him about the long line of trophy-wife “Moms” that were her only female role models as she grew up, and how she watched them discarded as they aged, so that she grew terrified of not being sexy enough to survive? What if she spent hours confiding things that would horrify her if they got out? What if it’s Gunther’s duty to not kiss and not tell?

Universities do not make a person. It is the effort and time that a person puts into learning that determines their success. Universities have a MORE diverse array of political opinions that most of the rest of society.

    > Looks like someone’s complaints backfired>People’s complaints about Sun didn’t backfire; on the contrary, they succeeded. The people who complained did so because they found her visual depiction offensive (highly reminiscent of WWII cartoon depictions of the hated Japanese enemy), and Evans has stopped using her. Maybe when she re-appears in the strip, that ear-to-ear grin will be lessened.

I wonder if his sweater is inside out. I too saw the comparisons between Gunther and Norman Bates and almost commented on it yesterday. Both have an unusually close relationship with an overly protective mother; both are jealous of their mothers’ male companions; both have encounters with “sex kittens” that their mothers probably would not approve of. This is eerily similar to the last episode of Bates Motel. I hope Tiffany is okay.
