I remember some PSAs from the early Sixties—TV cartoons about “Dippy Diphtheria” and other diseases. They’re on YouTube, and the interesting thing is that they didn’t need to describe the effects of diphtheria, polio or other diseases. Those are historical mysteries to most people and I hope they stay that way:

I fight with anti-vaxxers on the Internet. They seek a return to polio’s glory days.

An interesting story on one “solution” to the diphtheria problem in the 1870’s: http://backstoryradio.org/2015/08/27/better-to-burn/

PoxMan. The accidental result of the efforts of a medical researcher to mutate a deadly virus into a universal immunity trigger. His fellow researchers laughed, and mocked him without mercy. One, threatened by his progress and inevitable breakthrough, attempted to remove him and steal his work. The result of his scheme was his own demise, and the creation of PoxMan, who can kill or heal with a touch, either devastating the immune system of the target, or destroying all pathogens within them. His work destroyed and his life ruined, the death of his co-worker blamed upon his experiments, he disappears, a man wanted by the law and unwanted in the scientific community, shunned and demonized by all.For a time, he disappears to various third world hot zones, healing people and dealing justice to those who maintain the conditions of poverty and filth that creates the epidemics he had sought to end. Warped, twisted and darkened by his experiences, he returns to become the nightmare of the vast, many-tentacled nightmare that he now knows the academic community to be, supporting himself by criminal acts and the destruction of what he views as injustice and the sole pursuit of monetary gain from the misery of others.
