I know exactly the comments that Seismic will make. I can hear it now…

New poll up if you missed it yesterday: What will Quill pick?. Now you can respond and look prophetic.

If that’s a face lift, it has to have been a towtruck doing the lifting!!! – And if beauty’s only skin deep, this must’ve been after she was shedding her skin!-And I’m sure the camera would turn it’s flash on, hoping it works just like mace… – I’m also sure that no one wants to hack that identity…

Luann’s art teacher should give her an “A”. It’s really good!

I thought zombies ended up with no noses at all. Not pig noses….

Fact: The older I get, the less I care about Halloween. I must be terminally dull.
Angelalex242 about 9 years ago
You start caring about Halloween again when you’ve got kids. I promise.

I’m looking forward to four or five years from now when someone wants to reference the “going to New York vs helping the parents open their gallery” storyline and includes the relevant strip, and everybody wonders what the heck was up with the faces?

This is her first step into maturity. Congrats, Luann!

What if Mr Gray turns out to be like ‘Ted’ on Buffy?
Sisyphos about 9 years ago
My goodness! After her little snit, Luann has had a s sudden fit of maturity. Maybe there’s hope for the girl yet. —And for the girl and Quill….
drewpamon about 9 years ago
Didn’t she ever watch Mean Girls? You’re supposed to dress sexy not scary for Halloween.

Mr. Sardonicus, meet Sister Sardonicus….
JayBluE about 9 years ago
Yes, but as I was just mentioning, I thought it would be just a bit longer. I’ve seen her “come around” (at least as shown in the first one similar to this dialogue, in that previous discussion in the food truck) to what Quill was saying, before…just not in the strip immediately following…

Sure. Anything to put off drawing some new places. If in fact he ever will.

Great episode. Does anyone else think that Luann, without the makeup, could play Donna Douglas’ role?

What are the odds that something will come up in the Spring, and the trip to New York will be put off once again?
The trip to New York is shaping up like Brad & Toni’s wedding – getting delayed again and again.

Implausible saidA story needs some conflict though; if it’s resolved instantly, there is no story. A good story has some conflict where the protagonists aren’t always victorious so it’s not so easy to predict, we’ve been waiting years for that to happen …-—————————————————-We still have Saturday to end this arc. .Perhaps there will be a surprise, i.e., a confusing weekend FINALE (before jumping to another arc.)
doverdan about 9 years ago
Implausible said, A lot of the writing lately revolves around teasing that things will happen, and then they don’t or it goes by unnoticed because we’ve moved on to some new plot tease.-——————————————————That is IMO a very well-put description of what many find frustrating here recently..It was not at all typical of the strip a few years back.
doverdan about 9 years ago
Fact is, there aren’t a lot of situations in this strip where a male character gets disappointed/angry so it may just seem like the women are being attacked all the time. . . . -———————————————-Well, let’s not forget that Brad had his issues with Dirk. Several times. Also some with T.J.
doverdan about 9 years ago
Could something confusing/teasing about Prudence and NY arise tomorrow? .Right now this arc seems completed, and that is not typical these days.

Why, Luann??? You should have stuck with the hot zombie look you had going on until the last panels …

Gunther was attacked because he was acting angry about his mother daring to have a life, not about wanting to do something himself. He also got angry when she DID concentrate all her energy on making him a lunch or doing things for him.
Gunther was acting like a bully, and was actually acting in an almost threatening manner. That’s nothing like someone getting angry because a trip they hoped to make is regarded as much less important than putting everyone else first.
Argy.Bargy2 about 9 years ago
It’s interesting that when Bernice gives in to others and lets them leave pets or questionable packages in her dorm room, she’s a ‘doormat’. On the other hand, when Luann gets angry because she’s expected to give in to others needs and postpone her own hoped-for trip, she’s regarded as ‘selfish’ and ‘self centered’. As soon as she gives up and goes along with what others want, she’s ‘maturing’.
Why isn’t Bernice ‘maturing’ when she puts others needs ahead of her own?

Implausible, you stated:“Evans has been pretty good about drawing new things. If they don’t go to NY it’s because you can’t cliffhang a story there, things actually have to happen. A lot of the writing lately revolves around teasing that things will happen, and then they don’t or it goes by unnoticed because we’ve moved on to some new plot tease.”
I think that was an excellent comment! It does indeed offer a logical reason which helps to explain the vacillations in the New York arc. Also, I too agree with you about Greg being good at drawing new things. I think of the various drawings of Peru, as well as other recent new places. I do not think there is any issue with drawing. I suspect that perhaps Greg and/or his daughter are perhaps still trying to DECIDE in a long range perspective where they are wanting these characters to go and develop. I can envision the two of them having a lot of discussion about where each potential path in the story’s arc will need to lead over the next several years. Planning, even general details, that far into the future is a helluva lot of work, and I am sure they are both spending a lot of time thinking and discussing this. I think the two of them sometimes need to “backpedal” a little bit….. when they themselves have not made a firm decision about something well down the road.

I love that episode! I remember seeing it when it originally aired in ‘62. I was an impressionable teenager, and it had a profound effect on me. It made me understand that physical “beauty”, however it’s defined, isn’t important.

“As you can see, the zombie-face coloring appears to be Sheriff’s invention. Interesting to see how a 3rd party colorist can make it seem like Luann/Quill put more work into their costume than they did.”^Did you order the “Brick In A Glove” from Acme? That’s a “heavy back handed slap”, if I ever saw one…I am of the opinion that either the colorist should be offended, the cartoonist, the fictional lead characters should be offended, or the pixels that color them should be offended… – You could have said that the colorist gave the strip an added dimension in touching up with color, and that it’s an interesting effect that could lend itself to other humorous points of enjoyment, when seeing the strip in both B/W and color… – But when you used the phrase “more than they did”, it seemed to take a note of negative comparison and “couch” it into a bunch of words that seem to “mask” it.. in my opinion, that’s reminiscent of “serving a nice sandwich and fries”… and finding a strand of hair on it…
