I really like the drawing in this strip, particularly the fierce look in the last panel. It has a great background, and really shows how passionate, and protective, and ready to rumble our sweet nut Luann is ready to do if she feels threatened. And they did continue the arc, fitting right into the opening of the Fuse.

I guess Luann’s car is the “Special Chameleon Model” (parked on the right side, in the last panel) …In the past, it was “Green Means Go Get Him”, trensitioning over to “Passionfruit Red”, and it today has become a “Jeaalous Green”…as shown here…and here…and in today’s… –

I’m betting Pru proves to be obviously gay or similarly exempt as serious competition. But so far in the whole course of the strip has Luann shown any qualities that would make her a real contender for any hot guy like Quill? Toni is superhot, but why should we even root for Luann as Quill’s lifepartner?

Given the length of the arc it took to finally meet the room mate Dez, I am guessing we will not get Pru out of the “You just missed her” shadows ’til December

Prudence and Luann will unexpectedly hit it off well and become fast friends.

“Blame the colorist.”^No, I choose not to. I’d rather see it as an interesting “subtext” and humorous take on a nice coincidence… I think it is nice, just like it is, with the differences, intentional or not!

Plus, it reminds me of Wade The Duck’s inner tube, as the duck head on it changes with the same moods as Wade (as seen in the strip “U.S. Acres”, a sort of “Garfield Cousin”)…..

Luann needs to learn that jealousy is toxic and tends not to attract but actually can have the opposite effect of repelling the object of one’s affections.

Bet here is Pru is a knock-out beautiful lesbian that has no romantic interest in Quil. BUT…. neither we nor LuAnne will find that out for another week or so.

There is a problem with the “Pru is 50 theory”. Namely, we would then need an explanation why Quill would be so insensitive as not to reassure Luann. “We’re just pals, and besides she is over 50.” Not to mention that becomes a mean kind of teasing.

Prudence. A name from the turn of the last century. She’s 50+ for sure and no threat to anyone. At least on the level suggested by Luann behavior.

The name “Prudence” was most common in the 17th-18th centuries. Were Pru to be 50, say, she would have been born in 1965. At that time, the name was just about as rare for a baby name as it would be now. The same would be true of “Chastity” or “Modesty”. So, this is not the clue commenters imagine it to be, and Greg would know that.

Greg is really dragging this out. Been a long time and getting boring.

Don’t forget that all this time, she kept insisting to people that she isn’t jealous over Prudence, and is “going to be okay”… so either she is doing that thing where she’s “trying to talk a good game” but just succumbing to her “emotional presets” (and could possibly have just let what Tiffany and Brad said get inside her head) or… she’s just practicing her delivery (but in a “strictly rehearsal” kind of way, without the direct/attached emotional cues), as she’s trying to “cover her bases” so that either way, she can (1) “protect her interests” and (2) to make the most/best of the situation (in the interests of DeGroot peace), thus to “get the maximum amount of birds with the minimal amount of bird projectiles”….

How long will it take her to get out of the car? Will we find out what Pru looks like be Friday? Place your bets.

I’ve seen that look on Edda (9 Chickweed Lane). In fact, Edda might be able to advise Luann how to handle Prudence!

Do you think Prudence might just be an older (or slightly older) person, more of a mentor to Quill and not a threat to Luann? Has anyone already said this? I only read the first 15 comments before writing, so I’m sorry if I’m repeating a thought from another commenter.

Luann has donned a suit of armor. She’s ready to do battle, to fight for what she thinks is hers.. I’m guessing that Pru will turn out to be so nice, down to earth and disarming, Luann will not know what to do. She’ll be confused as she can’t fight something that doesn’t want to fight her .

All this for Quill, Momther’s jobless rent-free boarder who probably plays all his parts with an Australian accent.

At first I thought this was about jealousy. Then they built it up so long that I thought to make it surprising at all she would turn out to be totally nonthreatening, like really ugly or really old. Then the buildup got so long even that “surprise” would not be enough. Who would make LuAnn feel guilty for being jealous of. Is Pru black? Gay? I’m going with Trans. She has to be trans at this point.

I think Pru will be a much older woman. She’s had time to develop her acting and directing talents.

Day after day, month after month, year after year. Greg has to grind out this cartoon strip and try to keep it fresh. I don’t blame him for playing cat and mouse with us by stretching out this story, look how long it took to meet Dez. One thing on the plus side is that his drawing has only gotten better. Now, if he can give Sun a little makeover, she will do for the Asian look what Rosa did for the Hispanic. Lucy Liu, watch out.

I have a feeling Luann will walk in. People will be busy including Pru and there won’t even be any chance for Luann to interact with Pru, much less try to play out all her fantasies and practiced introductions. Reality will hit. Pru will only be interested in the show and producing it. And that will be that.

Pru will be at least in her mid-40s. She sees Quill as a star student. She will be able to test out her play in a startup theater. She will be more of a threat to Luann’s mom than to Luann.
