Pru: Oh! Love this! So nice of your parents! I adore you all! Could live here forever! Pru: But whew! Exhausted!! beddt bye time for me! See you tomorrow! Pru: Oh,hi, Quill!
It could very well be that the conversation has something to do with the play… sometimes creativity sparks communication, even at that time.. – But, still, things can and will run through Luann’s mind…
“But Not For Me” (♫)“Midnight At The DeGroot Oasis” (♫)“I Know There’s Something Going On….” (♪)“Suspicion….Torments My Heart…” (♪)“Things That Make You Go Hmm” (♫)“You Can Blame Ma Belle” (♫)“Got My Attention”“Invasion Of The Head-Scratchers”“Ring Of Truth…Or Dare”“Dial It Up A Notch”“Going To Yellow Allert”“Always Have Time For You”“A Communique That’s Not Okay”“Telephony”“Where There’s A Quill, There’s A Way”or“Reading Between The Telephone Lines”
Yeah, okay…they’re practically “Strangers In The Night”…. he was looking for her, and she was talking to him when they finally met up (as shown in this strip from last week)… no “ice cold” greetings, no “Oh…it’s you…”. I’m sure there had to be some sort of friendly and “not cold war-like” communications going on between them… –
Hmmm are we fans in the middle of a massive misdirection play in Luannverse, or is it is what Luann wondered it was, and Bernice is sure it is? And man here we are on Sunday coming, so this does not look like it will be resolved anytime soon.
“Beddy-bye” plus “Hi, Quill” means that Luann’s anxieties, never far submerged, have resurfaced with a rush. But is Pru the villainess some commenters suspect, or just the innocent foil in this arc about trust issues?
“She’s highlighted how pointless Luann and Quills relationship is. They don’t communicate and Luann still doesn’t trust him. Why are they even together?”^
– Miscommunications? Sure. “On the same page”? No, not all the time. “Ultimate Compatibility”? Maybe, . maybe not (depending on the author’s pen). But “Pointless relationship”? Far from it….
“It also doesn’t appear that Quill even cared about all the stuff that Luann sent. “Sounds great, Luann!” is as much as he elaborated on the subject.”^People tend to get distracted, when they’re in the middle of something that involves their heart and mind, like his heart and mind being in theater, and, maybe, the play that he was working on, at the time ….now, if he did that when he wasn’t already involved in anything, then maybe you could say that he didn’t care. But as was shown when he returned from the airport, he obviously cared enough to remember their conversation about Luann’s wanting to save up for New York, when her parents mentioned opening the Fuse at the same time as their plans were supposed to be…and also discussed how to help her parents, and to still find a way to go to NY with her later…
Honestly, this arc has gone on long enough, we spent three months on Luann’s lovelife and I’m still curious about Mr. Gray. This can all be solved by Aaron Hill
“There is literally no reason that Luann should have been this misinformed about Prudence.”^This is what you initially said: “I still wonder what she and Quill talk about, if anything. Would help to understand why Luann has no trust in her boyfriend.”– This is what you said, afterward : “Who cares if Prudence is there to steal Quill or not, she’s already done her job. She’s highlighted how pointless Luann and Quills relationship is. They don’t communicate and Luann still doesn’t trust him. Why are they even together?”– You wondered “why they have nothing to talk about”, and yet you also say that “Who cares if Prudence is there to steal Quill or not?”. So why should she , if you don’t? Plus, you said “how pointless” their relationship is. So, if it’s pointless, what point is there , in talking about anything ?
I am getting tired of this arc. And while at first I thought Pru was simply a comic foil and everything would turn out to be a huge misunderstanding, the way Greg is drawing things out makes me wonder if the reason is a breakup is in the works. I like Quill and Luann together and don’t want that, but this seems awfully long for it to end any other way—like Gunther and Rosa.
I cast a careless glanceInto the lake of my desiresSuch are reflections on all that’s passedAnd if I stare too hardThe ripples dance and call me liarHow do they know me I’ve never asked?
Seven times I’ve heard my conscience cryI’ve never worked out why i need to live this tainted life
This drama has gone on too long; I really hope it doesn’t drag out the entire month as Pru is supposed to be here for a Christmas show. If this keeps up much longer I may take this out of my daily page and check it only on Sundays.
Oh. My. Gosh. I just looked at the strip again and noted that, in the third panel, there was no usual indication of a phone ringing prior to Pru’s greeting to Quilly. Could it be possible that the scoundrel was lying in wait, already hiding in the room for Pru?
I noticed that as well, and thought it might be that. But it could also be that she called him, even though she said she’s going to bed. Or, her cell could have been on “vibrate.” Hmmmm…… ;-PPP
My gut tells me that Pru is simply a device to plant all kinds of angst into Lu’s head for whatever comedy that might result. I don’t believe Pru and Q are an item. I believe Q has been and is currently faithful to Lu. But it’s just fun to watch Lu go crazy over stuff like this. ;-) Hopefully, in the end, she’ll mature a little and chill out when she realizes that’s exactly what Q has done.
“So has anyone read this alleged script yet?”*PS – nope, my point above. But then another commenter quoted Quill as saying it’s the same production he currently was in— one that took weeks of preparation & rehearsal by theater majors. No one’s been cast, no lines learned (though Qu could reprise his), no staging, no advertising.*As I said, 2 weeks to Hannukah, 3 1/2 weeks to Christmas. And it’s to be a holiday opening.
They’ve been dating too long for this story to make any sense, it just highlights how awful their relationship is. Maybe that’s the point, though.
I think the point is that now that they’re out of Pitts HS, Greg needs other mechanisms to cause Lu “angst” (since, apparently, there’s some humor in seeing Lu work out her angst). Tiff, Bernice, etc. are pretty much lost in that regard, now, since they don’t really see much of each other. Pru is a convenient way to keep Lu on edge. Hence, Pru staying at the DeGroot’s house and being involved with the “Fuze” production.
I just can’t see Greg/Karen sending Q away (back to OZ), then bring him back, and then dismiss him again… not at this point. Why would they do that?
Which is the perfect reason to get rid of Quill. Their relationship is incredibly dull.
I guess there’s more “angst” potential in her dealing with Quill actively, then dealing with his loss. She’d grieve for a while but then move on. With Quill still in the picture, she can get “firery” for quite some time.
Of course, we could always see Luann on campus making new friends, getting into new hobbies, creating drama that’s beyond the high school cast… Evans has done this a bit, but only for Bernice. Luann is still stuck in high school.
Well, there is her “Zebo” classmates. Mr. Jock, etc.. Still, I don’t think they can raise her hackles like something involving Q.
Greg usually shows a ring tone or some indication. Given the physical separation with the door, perhaps he assumed that if there was a ring tone it wouldn’t be heard anyway.
Or, it was on “silent” and she saw it, or on “vibrate” and she….. uh… never-mind! ;-PPP
There was a “twideet”-or something or other sound from Luann’s phone last week or so, when cleaning Brad’s room, as it was in her pocket, though this was a text message alert and not a direct phone call…
Or it was supposed to be a brief period with a slight “time lapse” between her leaving the room and Quill calling, where it was going to “seem” nonconequential, but transitioned into a suspenseful moment, with the highlight focused on what Luann could overhear…
I keep reading all of these comments about how Luann needs to talk to her boyfriend, and comparing them to the real world. Or at least the part of the real world that I am part of.
I’ve never married (long story short: I carry genes for some life-threatening illnesses and don’t want to keep passing those on; everyone I met claimed to understand but wanted “their own” rather than adopted kids when serious marriage questions came up.)
I explained my situation to everyone, and it was a deal-killer for the few serious relationships I had.
Meanwhile, I see married friends and relatives all around me who do NOT ‘talk’ to their significant other about every issue. And that may be why they stay together. Maybe knowing everything is as much of a problem as not knowing certain things.
Just as an example that some of you might relate to: the cartoonist Lynn Johnston (“For Better or For Worse”) explained, in an interview years ago, that her second marriage ended when her husband Rod told her he was leaving her, that he’d been with someone else for quite some time, and it was someone she knew.
Johnston told her interviewer that she had not really known that this was going on, but she understood more, in retrospect, because Rod had made a lot of changes in the way he dressed and things he did. She also said she would catch him looking at her with what seemed to be hatred, but she kept telling herself that it couldn’t be.
So, if real married people don’t always talk about critical issues, I’m not sure why anyone expects cartoon girlfriend and boyfriend to do any better at this…
Exactly as what I thought – she is a villain. Black lips. Ann Effiel, anyone? She wants Quill and is trying to catch him under the guise of being interested in helping with theater. The question here is does Quill return the feeling but is hedging because of Luann?
So where is Quill calling from? the room he shares with Gunther? Will there be a scene where he confides his love-life dilemmas with Gunth? That would be the only way we can understand what’s on Quill’s mind about all of this. Because unfortunately, Quill is the one who is in control…. of two women… at this point.
BLUE: You have GREAT comebacks!! LOL You’re right! Isn’t it amazing how everyone follows their favorite comics?? I’ve been following Luann since the 80’s! Too bad about her and Aaron Hill. Now she has Quill. Tiffany TRIED to lure him away from her. So, it looks like another woman is trying to do the SAME thing. I think Luann made a BIG mistake, moving Pru into her home! I wouldn’t allow it!! That’s like… My husband letting his ex wife to stay with us!! NO-AH-AH! NADA! Luann, stand in the hallway and listen…I would! Hey, if anyone knows a great producer out there?? LUANN would make a great night cartoon!
Relaxed story line needs an event that says “Gotcha” and takes us by surprise. I anticipated some big revelation about Mr. Gray, but it never happened. I hoped for something earth shattering for Gunther and Tiffany, but it was not to be.
