Yea! Sydney’s prediction was right! Take a gander at the lighted animated “Morgue” sign… visitors won’t have a problem finding the morgue! Tours every hour!
Poor Mrs. 3D. She suspects that Tracy has something unpleasant for show and tell.
Panel 1: Is that Adalia Stevenson or President Merkin Muffley working in the morgue?
You should see the sign for the BROTHEL. Bright pink neon!
As I mentioned yesterday, photos should have been taken at the crime scene. And with a digital camera, Tracy would have had a shot of the tattoo by now. I know, this strip gets mixed up at times and uses old tech like a teletype. But even in the old days they had Polaroid cameras.
Quite the overhang with that MORGUE sign. I wonder how secure those giant letters are. Maybe they’re made of granite. I can see one falling off and crushing someone.
Bystander: “Poor guy. He was in a hurry. I wonder where he was going?”
In the future, detectives will have an extra hand and forearm grafted to their stomachs so they can draw a concealed weapon while a criminal is watching their other hands.
Fashionable socialites will superglue a phone between their hand and ear. (That fashion seems to be getting started already.)
The Naperville city morgue will be equipped with a prominent neon sign to make it easier for people who don’t know where it is to find the morgue. However, other cities will not adopt that practice.
Panel-Panner, - In Gould’s day the policeman would be wearing a 2-Way Wrist TV and Tracy would be getting ‘pics’ of the body and the tattoo (a butterfly) ‘LIVE’ – as it all happened !.
But Author Locher has rolled back all those elements of ‘technelogical’ progress that made the Tracy strip unique - and outstanding.
For the amount of use he puts it to, it may just as well be the original, ‘old’ 2-Way Wrist Radio. He uses it - ONLY like a cell-phone
Another GREAT all-new Dick Tracy comic strip! Wonderful version of Mrs. D’Buckworth today. Really enjoying the current story.
The use of the giant sign for the morgue is very memorable. The Dick Tracy adventure strip has been using this method to show different scene locations for decades. It’s a lot of fun and sets the Dick Tracy strip apart.
This method also has been used very successfully on the highly rated and very enjoyable new show on Fox-TV, FRINGE. If you have never seen it, check it out. It has been on for the last 2 years on FOX, although they don’t show summer re-runs anymore, you can check it out on DVD.
If you get the chance check out the last few days here on the gocomics site. I really like the transition from 8/6 to 8/7 in the scene shots, showing the camera moving in closer to the house. The backgrounds continue to improve here, too. Better details today on the building.
And mentioning looking back a few days on the Dick Tracy comic strip, I just now reviewed the last few weeks of Dick Tracy strips here on the gocomics site and I can not find any mention of ANY BUTTERFLY. Was there a BUTTERFLY drawn in the background that did not get mentioned in the dialogue of the strip. If anyone can find a BUTTERFLY in the Dick Tracy strip, I can not seem to find one.
Everyone here finds a lot of crazy things unintentionally dropped into backgrounds and shadows. Was there a BUTTERFLY in the scene where the body was discovered or did somebody mention a BUTTERFLY in the dialogue? Can’t find a BUTTERFLY in the Dick Tracy comics. Can anyone find one?
Sydney Phillips: ” He [Spacey] uses it [the Wrist Geenee] - ONLY like a cell-phone”
Not even–nearly all cell phones have cameras and can send pictures to other cell phones.
SimonPenn: so you’re saying the big floating letters spelling out “MORGUE” are some kind of special effect and NOT the sign on the building? Well, that might make some sense: “Fringe” involves alternate universes and a mad scientist who just might sew an extra hand into a detective’s stomach. Maybe you’re on to something…
In time I suspect we’ll learn that the tattoo is completely incomprehensible until you put on 3-D glasses, at which point it becomes…
“thanks Spacey for telling me how to do my job! the autopsy report, with film and voice recording, is on your desk. so no one took pictures at the crime scene? good work!
you can come inside and view the remains in person; i could also examine that hand-like growth sprouting from your torso.”
Could SimonPenn possibly be Matt Hansel in disguise? Matt doesn’t seem like the type to hide his identity, but all those words spelled in all-capital letters for emphasis do seem kinda familiar.
Matt, if you’re out there, I hope you will get your Apollo and Methuselah strips started again!
My favorite ‘Little Orvy’ strip was the hurricane where they built a tower under his direction to protect the islanders and one was complaining that it did not have a bowling alley! When told that the barometer had dropped he told them to pick it up.

You are welcome, VB.
Us comics curmudgeons oughta stick together. I check that site out several times a week and, as here, enjoy the commentary more than the strip,
BONUS QUESTION for all you old guys out there:
Do any of you remember a comic strip named ‘Little Orvy’?
Panel-Panner over 14 years ago
@ Flight Suit:
I don’t know who Matt Hansel is but I suspect that SimonPenn is as real as Sidney Mellon and Jess Lemon.
In fact, Simon acts like Sidney Mellon recovering from a severe head injury.
