What intrigues me,( aside from the self-destruction of the Grand Old Party ), is that, now that his opponents have decided to take the gloves off and do the mad dog attack routine on Rump, their efforts are only making him more a hero in the eyes of the anti-establishment core of voters, who really don’t give a damn if he’s the devil himself, as long as he’s a Washington outsider.
All the negative press ( although all probable true ) and all the vitriol of his opponents ( all probable spurious – small hand / really ? ) only go to make him a martyr and hero to his white, disenfranchised, and disgruntled followers.
By allowing the extreme right-wing to cripple the government, the chickens are coming home to roost for the Republicans.
As the Democratic party, for its sins, deserves Hillary Clinton, so too, does the Republican party, for its sins, deserve Donald Trump.

When I look at what both sides are offering, it becomes clear the ugly American is uglier than ever…..

I wonder what percentage of today’s voters are even aware of the reference.

He was harping on the Ugly American elsewhere as well . . . to which I replied:
Ironically, the Ugly American was the good guy. Wiki sums it up nicely:
The “Ugly American” of the book title refers to the plain-looking engineer Atkins, who lives with the local people, who comes to understand their needs, and who offers genuinely useful assistance with small-scale projects, such as the development of a simple bicycle-powered water pump.
According to an article published in Newsweek in May, 1959, the “real” “Ugly American” was identified as an International Cooperation Agency technician named Otto Hunerwadel, who, with his wife Helen, served in Burma from 1949 until his death in 1952. They lived in the villages, where they taught farming techniques, and helped to start home canning industries.

And the real irony of the Obama presidency is that he has managed to get so much done, despite the opposition, and has been too reasoned and way too moderate, for the folks who elected him. The prime example is the ACA, the Republican plan(Dole/Romney) for healthcare that enriches their clients, big pharma and the insurance companies. Shoulda been Medicare for all or better. Gitmo seems his biggest failure, and frankly, I’m really pretty dang smart(not as smart as Trump, of course)and I watch things pretty dang closely, and a reasonable plan for that little endeavor has not been found.
Of course there is that one little thing, about being the first black president. Elected and re-elected!

One of Papa Fred Trump’s tenants was none other than Woody Guthrie and his dad. Woody even wrote a song about Fred’s racial discrimination in the housing project.
