Sam: Each of you knew Mr. Platt well...and had reason to want to see him dead! Harold K. Reevers -- Platts stamp collecting rival cheated him out of the "ottoman star" Dr. Otis Snotseed -- Platts childhood chum who secretly abhorred Platt for his company environmental crimes, Including the use of ivory... Juanita Atkins --Platt's erstwhile lover with whom he recently broke up with a "Dear Juanita Letter... and Nils Larson -- Platts longtime postman, were you surprised to find out you were a major beneficiary in Platt's will? But only one of you had the means and opportunity.... FOOSH The mystery of the deadly letter opener was very very close to being solved, But the fluke occurrence of spontaneous human combustion will forever keep a secret the brilliant solution deduced by Sam Roland, the detective who dies!!

Yes, Duke ofOmnium! I remember reading a Dickens novel—was it “Martin Chuzzlewit”?; not sure—where he takes off on this tangent on spontaneous combustion. And he’s so self-righteous about it; outraged that any reasonable person could doubt the existence of this fiery menace.
